Dyed our eggs last night, would it be wrong to eat them today?

Does anyone know for sure about the refrigeration of eggs? I know this one guy told me they really don't need to be, but I'm not eating eggs that were left out all night. Also, is it different for hard boiled?

You know you got me thinking about this ..when I was a kid the colored eggs stayed on the kitchen table in a basket and we ate them over a few days, did the same thing with my kids, of course we didn't vaccinate our dogs, fed them people food all the time, didn't wear seat-belts (in fact I don't think we HAD seat-belts, how did we survive ?? :rotfl2: Having said that now we DO know better. The eggs should be refrigerated just like any other time of year. Still don't undestand the "throwing them away" though; but I guess if that's what you grew up with then that's what you do....Have a Blessed Easter from our family to yours,

Ruthie

Yes, I remember sticking my whole head and shoulders out the window of the car on the highway. Now, I'd pull over and scream at my kids till I was blue in the face.

We dye our eggs and refrigerate them - then we eat them......no way I'm letting a dozen eggs go to waste.

:confused3 Really they cost us $.89 and serve as a decoration. Why pay for the dye or food coloring and then just eat them? That seems like a waste.:rotfl: We like to see ours.

We just decorated 4 dozen eggs today and we put the other 3 dozen in the refrigerator ( we already ate a dozen :rotfl:) We will take 2 dozen to my moms tomorrow one for deviled eggs and one for potato salad. Then over the next few days we will eat the other dozen. We don't ever have to throw any eggs away.

We eat them. I boil them, put them in the fridge, take them out to dye them, and then put them back in the fridge. I would LIKE to make egg salad with them, but my kids eat them as soon as they are dyed and back in the fridge. They dip them in salt like I did as a kid. I dyed 18 yesterday and I bet you I have 6 left.

I also make deviled eggs for easter, so you would think that would be enough hard boiled eggs for my kids. :goodvibes

It never even occured to me that people throw them out. We like hard boiled eggs in our house though...deviled eggs, cobb salads, potato salad are all things I make with them. I'm surprised people throw them away.

Isn't it funny what you learn on a board like this?! I never ever thought of throwing them away. Not that we would even have any left in the next few days to throw out! I found the one food my 2 year old LOVES! :woohoo:

We are in the eating catagory too. We did 4 dozen and are already down more then a dozen since yesterday. DH and the kids are crazy about hardboiled eggs and deviled eggs, me not so much. We color them for the fun of it.

A friend of mone ws doing eggs with her kids the other day. She did 10 eggs for 2 kids. She thought I was insane to be doing so many but they will get eaten.

We will be eating ours. The kids dyed them today and they are going in the fridge. Btw. . .raw eggs do not have to be refrigerated, but once they are cooked they do. Don't ask me how long they last. . .I have no idea. I refrigerate mine.

We eat them too. I would never have thought of throwing them out, budget friends, what's up with that???

Agreed.

The info about the raw eggs is definitely what my uncles and aunt say. They were all raised by their mom who grew up in rural Montana, and they never refrigerated their eggs. I came up there for a camping trip on one uncle's property during a reunion, and they scoffed at me having eggs in a cooler...all of their eggs just sat out the entire long weekend. They were going by old knowledge, not the fear-based egg industry info (they are afraid of lawsuits so give waaaaay too careful advice). I trust them.

Also, we grew up with chickens for the eggs, and never refrigerated them...well, we ate the eggs so fast that they probably didn't NEED to be refrigerated, LOL...

We would go to a HUGE easter egg hunt in San Francisco growing up, where they hid actual eggs (not the plastic eggs I just yesterday found are being used in hunts), we'd find them, and those were the prizes (not prizes inside plastic eggs). Hardboiled eggs for days!

.89 for eggs? Holy cow, I have never gotten eggs that cheap even with coupons.
Boo to the state of NJ!

I agree, I think its so funny, I always assumed people ate their eggs on Easter Sunday and whatever was left over they could eat throughout the week.

Funny Thread!
DH & I were just talking about 2 years ago at SIL for Easter. She had the kids decorate the hard boiled eggs, kept them on display, at night she hid them for kids to find in the morning. Then she took those same eggs and made deviled eggs and potato salad. I reminded (whispered) to DH and kids several times NOT to eat the deviled eggs or salad for dinner!!
Nobody got sick and everyone ate it except us, but DH & I think they just have a high immunity built up for bacteria! :lmao:

I must be from another planet. I never thought about eating them :lmao: I have them boiling now & in a few hours they'll be dyed by DS & myself. I put them in a cute basket. Take pictures & then THROW them away. Always did that & now that I think about so did my mom. :rotfl2:

WHAT?! At least make some deviled eggs outa them! :)

dont they need to be refrigerated if you are going to eat them??

I boiled them, the kids decorated them. I admired them, put them in the fridge and we will definitely eat them!

:lmao: I know! I never throw them out either, but after we dye them we stick them in the frig. If we get up early enough, they get stuck in the baskets, otherwise they stay in the frig for breakfast, etc!

I think growing up my parents put them in the basket and we just ate them anyway LOL.

When I lived in Italy both eggs and butter (real) were just out in the aisles at the grocery store. They didn't refrigerate them. This was rural Sicily.

Wow realy?

In Germany you can buy boiled and dyed eggs the whole year around in every supermarket. I buy them when we have a BBQ,a party and my children take them to school for lunch. Last but not least my dog gets one every day. He has a egg addiction. :lmao:
