Dye Free at Disney?

Hi, everyone! I just joined the boards, and I apologize if this post is misplaced. I thought this might be a good place to start, though.

We just booked our first trip to WDW (with children) to celebrate our oldest daughters 5th b-day. However, she cannot have artificial colors (moderate-severe behavioral issues). I really hate the thought of not being able to let her have any treats (ie-cake, novelty ice creams, cotton candy.) for her birthday.

We had originally planned on getting a cake through Disney, but now with the dye elimination, we're not sure. Anyone have experience? (And, yes, I was planning on calling them to see what, if anything, can be done. But, just wondering if anyone else has dealt with doing a dye free diet at Disney)

Thanks!

I don't have any experience with this but I did want to recommend that you contact Babycakes to see what they can do. When I checked their website, it looks like the dyes they use are natural rather than the chemical kinds. For instance, their red dye in their red velvet cakes is listed as beet juice and citric acid. It's definitely worth checking with them.

Have you tried googling Feingold at Disney World? Hopefully there will be somebody here with some experience as well but in the meantime, that may come up with some blogs.

I second contacting Babycakes. They are located at Downtown Disney and are known for their natural ingredients in their bakery foods.

Also, for WDW, there is contact information in post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. Scroll down that post until you find the diet information. You can find that thread near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature.

DS has a dye allergy- we avoid other artificials like HFCS and MSG, etc. as well. At WDW a chef talks to us before every meal. Last year, DS's birthday was during our trip. We talked to Chef Brian (?) at the CR private Dining (we were eating at chef mickeys) he was able to make a speial b-day dessert for DS that met our requirements (we didn't want a big cake).

I'm making little 'business cards' that list out our allergies to help with the process. :goodvibes They just list the food allergies and give a little 'thank you' at the bottom :goodvibes

Thanks so much for the info everyone! Sounds like we'll be able to celebrate as usual with just a little extra planning!
