DxDP - Is "it's too much food" really that big an issue?

I've been sitting here reading old threads on DxDP, trying to gather some tips for my upcoming Aug '14 vacation with my DS6. I've used the DDP in the past and have found it to be either a break even or slight savings, so for me the Dining Plan is more about convenience and being paid up front. This will be my first time on the deluxe plan and chose it mostly as a go for it/try it out type of situation. I've loaded up with character meals and throwing in a couple of signatures to try for the first time. I'm pretty excited about it!

What got me thinking here is I read a lot about people saying it's a lot of food/too much food/too much time, etc... Am I nuts to not be concerning myself with this? The time one, I'm not so concerned about. To me, the TS meals will be as much for cooling down breaks as they are for the meals. Fortunately, my DS generally doesn't have an issue sitting through 1hr+ restaurant meals, so that helps. And, I have developed touring plans where all the restaurant time is not interfering with covering the attractions we want to see. So on that front, I'm good.

But the too much food one, is that really that big of an issue? I figure I'll order the 3 courses at lunch & dinner and if it's getting to be too much food, I just won't clear my plate. I still like the idea of being able to try stuff, even if I only eat a portion of it.

What have your DxDP experiences been like? I guess all the "too much food" posts have me second guessing myself and I'm looking for a little reassurance, but whenever I read that, I just keep thinking to myself, "so why didn't you just eat less of each course"?

Whether or not DxDP is too much food really depends on how you normally eat at home. I've done the regular and the deluxe plans, as well as TIW during my many trips to WDW. Of all the plans, I much prefer the deluxe plan. For me it's not too much food.

I always do a character breakfast and a signature dinner. I then have my snacks to tide me over. I always make sure I save money on the plan by ordering the more expensive entrees. If I don't eat the whole thing, that's ok. If I have an early flight, I use my snack credits the night before to get breakfast things to eat.

Don't apologize for wanting the deluxe plan. Disney offers plans in every price point so that people can decide how they want to eat while at WDW. I don't eat fast food at home, so I would never get the QS plan. That was also the reason I stopped getting the regular plan because the entree options were so limited.

Thanks for everyone's input and opinion. I thought some more about it and definitely going to stick with my DxDP plans. I'm pretty excited about it and I think all the meals I have planned are really going to add to the overall enjoyment of this vacation. I'm on a mission to stay in as many resorts and eat at as many restaurants as I can at WDW so I'll get to knock several off my TS list.

We love DXDP...

For us we love having the meals paid for in advance, only adult beverages and tips to worry about.

When on vacation DH and I don't want to worry about the cost of an entrée, just get what you want and enjoy. We love appetizer, and desserts. We also enjoy trying new things and soaking up what each restaurant has to offer. We are foodie's :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

You don't have to belong to the clean plate club at every meal. But we do find ourselves hungrier, as meal times due to all the walking, swimming and fun that you have.

I space out our meals, and plan to make sure to have enough for check out day, breakfast and even lunch. See what time you will be heading home, maybe a quick breakfast and grab some items for at the airport or to snack on while on the road home. We have used our last credits at Earl of Sandwich at DTD to grab some sandwiches for the road, use snack credits for treats at Goofy's Candy shop at DTD or one of the bakeries in the parks the night before, if you have a real early departure time. Also we have had breakfast in the food court and a swim, then to DTD for shopping, and a lunch, at Raglan Road, before heading home. Some friends leave late on their check out day - they check luggage spend a full day in the parks and have planned their meals so that they have the credit to cover no out of pocket. They head back to the resort pick up there luggage and head to the airport to spend the night at the air- port and catch a super early am flight home the next day. Dinning credit are good up to midnight of checkout day.

So I think that you will be pleased with your options, it just take a little planning.
