DxDDPers: Do you have a car?

Considering bumping up to DxDDP for trip next month. For our 6 day vacation, I'm already planning on paying for 4 OOP meals so far. Still crunching numbers whether TIW or DxDDP is better for us.

We did DxDDP in September and loved it but we had a car rental so lots of freedom to hop over to resort restaurants in the evenings. My DS and I will be using Disney transportation this trip and that makes it less appealing, to be honest.

So DxDDP users without cars, how did you fare? Reassure me it's not a giant waste of time (and I am not talking about actual eating time!)

We did the dxddp for 14 nights without a car and had no problems. We were staying at AKL and the bus transportation was pretty good, but we still always left around an hour and a half to get to another resort. We'd usually get there early and just have a pre-dinner drink.

It meant dining did take up most of our evenings, but we found it relaxing and as we had a long vacation anyway (21 nights), we weren't rushing to do everything anyway.

We always rent a car and going from resort to resort is one of the reasons. It's great not having to spend time on the buses and it generally only takes 15 minutes to get from one resort to another. Some folks use cabs to go from one resort to another.

we found cabs were the best way, at least one way. Busses were OK, but some of our ADRs were late and at signature restuarants so at that hour the trip back to the resort involved a bus to DTD, then to ur resort. Not the way to end a great relaxing meal!

we are doing the DxDDP this trip and we are driving to Disney with our van. Should be interesting with two little ones! :goodvibes

We were there on the DxDDP for 11 nights without a car and never had a problem. We figured we'd take a cab here and there, but didn't even end up doing that. Disney's transportation was just fine for us, though that was mainly because we were staying at WL and loved the boat ride so much that we didn't mind transfering at MK to get "home" in the evening after dinners at other resorts. I'd imagine it would be a bit more of a hassle staying at AKL or one of the mods, because there isn't any nearby park to use as a transfer point. Still, I don't think you'd need a car, just maybe cab fare on a cuple of nights, depending on your plans.

Thanks. I enjoyed your dining reviews, BTW!

Thanks very much. By the way I should have said we did grab a cab a few times on the way back from a meal, when it was late or we just couldn't be bothered to get two buses. It didn't cost too much and it was worth it to get home quickly when we were tired.

We're doing DxDP for our upcoming 6 night trip, and will only drive one night, to go from the MK to AK back to the Poly for dinner and then home to Pop.

I did DxDP in September and never needed a car, just hopped a bus from the resort to a park and then home or to DtD and then home.

I should say I am iffy on taking taxis with a 5-year-old. He should be restrained but I am leery of unfamiliar carseats, you never know if they've been in an accident and, when we cabbed it on a mom and trip with my oldest, the carseat was filthy and gross. I will do it if necessary, just don't want to rely on it.

I think we'll not be doing DxDDP this trip ...
