DxDDP for young family of 4 - Tons of Food Pics - UPDATED *12/17!* Whispering Canyon

NIce review of Chefs. We are doing dinner there on our upcoming trip. We will do Prix Fix meal for dinner and I keep trying to decide Lobster Bisque or French Onion Soup. The bisque looks delicious. I will be getting the Chicken also for my dinner.

Subbing! I'm interested to hear about the rest of your adventures, as we're doing DxDDP with our three year-old son this February. I wish we lived two and a half hours from Disney...I don't think we'd vacation anywhere else, ever! :lmao:

I have to say that I completely agree with your assessment of Chefs. I had wonderful memories of it from when I was a kid (I'm 35 now ;)), but it failed to live up to my expectations. I had the same entree as you did, and while the beef was flavorful, the pasta was this lump of congealed starch and I swear the mushrooms came straight out of a can! Yet, my escargot was excellent. :confused3 Weird.

Looking forward to reading more of your reviews.

Thank you for reviewing Chefs lunch.

I just scored an ADR there for lunch next Friday. I'm looking forward to giving it another chance just because your pix looked so good!

When we went for dinner in May we had a so so experience. DF really liked the food, but I had a migrane and was trying hard to be a big girl and not be miserable---but I was super miserable. I knew going in that nothing was going to taste good to me, but it was his 30th birthday and I was going to have to pony up.

The table next to us was giving our nice waiter a hard time over the bill so he wasn't around as much, but continued to apologize. We heard and saw what was going on so we understood... but never-the-less I was feeling pretty yucky and just wanted to get back to the Yacht Club.

Thanks for the review... I can't wait to see Remy now!! We bought a Remy last time, and I'm always Remy when we play Pixar Monopoly :)

Thanks for your reviews on Chefs. I was there a little over a week ago and I, too had the lobster bisque. Very interesting, though----mine did not have the lobster pieces in it, just the smooth soup. I found it strange, but didn't question it because I have had bisque like that before and I don't recall seeing pics of Chefs' bisque previous to our trip. Anyway, still very flavorful, but now I feel a little, hmmm, lobster robbed?? haha:rotfl:

Glad you had a good time and your little ones got to see Remy. Can't wait to read more!!

Thanks for your update at Chefs de France...so glad you posted pictures b/c I love the beef dish you got (I actually like the pasta that way)...I'm so glad you posted the hamburger b/c last time my son got the pasta and now he is into hamburger so he might order that.

Joining in! Can't wait to hear more reviews, we are eating at some of the same places in December when we do our DxDP trip!

Joining in...we will be doing DxDDp in Aug 2011 and plan on Chefs for a dinner adr :)

Subbing! More please!
More are coming soon! I am going to write the next one today!

Great review so far! Can't wait to read more!
Thanks! More coming soon.

Great start! We had the same appetizers at Chefs lol. I had the bisque and DH had the cheese plate. Glad you got to meet Remy! We were there on a Sunday, and he doesn't come out that day :( Can't wait to read more!
Thank you! Remy was just so cute, you should definitely go back to meet him some day if you get a chance! More coming soon...

Count me in! I am so excited to read your reviews. We are going Sept. 2011 our son will be almost 5 and I plan on taking our time and enjoying ourselves and going to some really good rest. So I would love to see how your kids did.
Glad you joined us! Our 5 year old did really well and enjoyed most of the meals so I hope yours will, too!

:rotfl: We don't go many more places to be honest. The kids love this, it is close and easy, and to be honest one of the least expensive options since we use our passes multiple times a year. The first trip of the year is a lot (with the cost of the passes) but then after that we just have to pay for hotel & food so it works out. I hope you enjoy the rest of the reviews, and glad you agreed!

Great update

I would love to meet Remy :cool1:
Thanks! He was pretty funny. They asked where we lived and we told them and he said Remy would like to come with us. Then he said wait, do you have any pets? And we answered yes, a Great Dane and then Remy protested a big NO absolutely not. :rotfl:

Remy was so cute! I just replied to the quote above yours about what he said. We got a good laugh out of it. I hope your next trip to Chefs is better!

Oh no! I am not sure I would have liked the soup so much without the lobster pieces in it! That is strange! Hope you keep reading and like the other reviews, too! :)

That is funny you like the pasta. I really disliked it! The hamburger was really great as far as a kids meal goes! I would say this was the "best value" for a credit for the kids meal we got for sure. I had people asking us about the Cheese Pastry and where on the menu it was. When I said the kids menu they were all surprised.:rotfl: Maybe they should put it on the regular menu! I would order it as an app.

Joining in! I also had the lobster bisque on our last trip and it was delicious! It didn't have the lobster meat all plopped in though, it was mixed through. That was the best part of my meal at Chefs. I thought the salmon was eh and I didn't care for the creme brulee at all. Although my friend finished hers and mine off, so I guess she liked it! :rotfl:

Chefs isn't on my list to return to any time soon either. Looking forward to the rest of your reviews!

For dinner on our first day we decided to eat at the Biergarten. This is somewhere we go almost every time we come to Disney World. My husband loves the place. However, the kids and I are not so fond of it. Don’t get me wrong, it is always a good meal for what it is, I just don’t appreciate the dishes and flavors like he does.

We got there a bit early for our 7:00PM ADR. We were seated about 5 minutes later. I asked for a seat near the stage so that my kids could see and that is what we got. I have never requested this before but I think if you have small children that have trouble seeing over others this could definitely be helpful, the kids loved it! The show started pretty soon after we were seated and it was really amazing to see some of the things they do with all of the different instruments. The band was very entertaining and fun. This is a view from our seat:

First, we ordered our drinks. I got a Coke, DH got the lemonade, and the kids had water, as usual. Then, I went to the buffet to get plates for the kids. I was really disappointed, actually. When we have been here before they have had a few items for the kids including Mac N Cheese. My daughter loves it and we don’t have it too often so I had told her earlier that she could have some for dinner. When I didn’t see it in its normal spot, I asked one of the CM’s where the kids selections were. He told me, “Somewhere over there. In the middle or something.” Um, yeah, thanks! Yeah they were nowhere to be found. I did later discover they were put out in their normal spot, right as we were leaving. That didn’t do me much good! I don’t know why they weren’t out earlier, but I just wanted to mention that in case someone else is looking for more kids options.

Even without the kids selections, DS5 & DD2 had plenty to eat. They had A LOT of fruit. The buffet had watermelon slices, grapes, cantaloupe and honey dew, which they devoured. I went back several times for more watermelon and grapes. The kids also had salads, some of the baked chicken and potatoes, so they had plenty of food, but it just wasn’t what we were used to or expecting from the Biergarten.

This was my first (and only, besides dessert) plate of food:

I always like the breaded pork dish they have. It is really good and has a lot of flavor. The pretzel bread is a must have (though it isn’t as good as the kind at Le Cellier) and also the warm german potato salad is good. It honestly isn’t like the other german potato salads that I have had because of the consistency. These potatoes were more like mashed potatoes with the german potato salad vinegary flavor. I really like them but my kids were not impressed. The roasted potatoes are also very good, I always get those as well. And the baked chicken was moist and flavorful. As you can see from the choices I’ve listed, this is one thing I don’t really love about this buffet, I feel that it is mainly variations of different meats and potatoes. They do have a few other things there like salad, fruit, sauerkraut, and carrots, but overall there is not very much variety at all. Or maybe I should said, not enough variety for my tastes. I know that is part of the authenticity though, so that is OK, just one of the reasons I personally don’t love it as much. The "all meat and potatoes thing" is something my husband views as a positive and me as a negative, so I guess that all depends how you look at it!

Somehow I missed getting a picture of my husband’s plate but he got the same things I did, plus sauerkraut and various sausages. I think this is the only time I missed a plate during our whole trip! I was up and down so much that I guess it just slipped my mind.

These were the desserts we tried.

I tasted each one but I honestly didn’t care for any of them. There is a cheesecake, a chocolate mousse type cake, and an apple dessert. My husband liked the cheesecake and ate that one. Nothing too special about any of these, but I felt they were pretty bland, not much flavor.

Our waitress was extremely slow with the bill and we waited at least an extra 30 minutes between using the DxDDP and doing the tip. I was getting very annoyed but just tried to let it go.

COST BREAKDOWN:

You can't tell from this receipt, but that is $39.99 for adults and $18.99 for children. I honestly don't feel it is worth this AT ALL, but just go because my husband really enjoys it. In our every day life I would never pay over $100 (with tip) for what I ate at this meal.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
As I said already, this is more of something I do because my DH loves it so much rather than something I do because I love the food. If I never ate here again, I wouldn’t be the least bit upset. The kids feel the same about the food, but they do love the entertainment. My husband could eat here every day. He absolutely loves it. We probably will be back at some point, but I did convince him to skip it next time! I’ve eaten here several times and never had a bad meal, so that is definitely a positive. It is a good experience and I think everyone should try it a time or two, but it is not a necessity for me each trip! Also it is probably not a great use of a Deluxe dining credit, but not too bad either.

Thanks for the post on Biergarten, I had an ADR (we never eaten there and I thought our 5 yrs son would love the band and my husband and I went to Germany and went to the real feast) but then our 5 yrs old would like Via Napoli better food choice.

It's funny, my husband and son have the same opinion you do- they don't like the food choices or flavors that well, but, unlike, you, they don't tolerate ADRs here except under extreme duress. I like to eat at Biergarten once every three or four years for the band and to watch the dancing, but it's not on the top of my list for every trip.

That one sounds like fun as well! We haven't been there yet...

Aww, well maybe they will let you go more often soon! :) I am trying to push it to the "every other trip" status. :thumbsup2

We are gong to Bierdgarten (sp?) too mainly because my Dad loves it there and we are also celebrating my parents 40th so we figured we would go there and surprise him.
I am not too excited about it, but there are 15 of us going (4 grandchildren) and I know the kids will love it and we will all just have fun together. Plus I
figure I am going to so many other great rest. and my Dad will love to be with all of us at one of his favorite places in Epcot. For my Dad I know he enjoys the food but honestly I think it is more about the beer and atmosphere and the memories when we were younger!

I've never even considered Biergarten because of the group seating and the menu doesn't appeal to me AT ALL. but... your pictures of the band make me want to go!!! DS11 just started band in 6th grade this year and loves all things musical right now. He would go CRAZY over all those different instruments. Ugh... what to do????? :confused3
