DxDDP for young family of 4 - Tons of Food Pics - UPDATED *12/17!* Whispering Canyon

Thanks for the update on The Wave. We are attending MVMCP and we were eating at CRT but the new menu did not have anything my son would eat so the CM suggested The Wave (I'm having second thought but after reading your food review...I'm not anymore and can't wait)
Thanks

thats a new dessert menu for the wave, its not on the dismenus, allearsnet or even on disney website

they sound evend better i cant wait well i have to wait another 67 days

mmm looks tasty! :goodvibes i would like to try it but im not really that into seafood :O

Just jumped in today. Your review of Grand Floridian Cafe brought me back to Disney...I just love the Grand Floridian burger there. I hate burgers, but not that one!

You got me excited to try The Wave! There are so many great restaurants, my fiance and I haven't gotten there yet...but after your raving about the scallops, I think we need to plan to get there soon!

Keep up the great reviews!

Thanks for the great reviews!! I feel better about my decision to take my youngest to a restaurant other than Biergarten now (he has been adament that he won't eat there while the other 12 people in our party want to eat there!) - I went there in '96 and wasn't crazy about it. We will be at Fulton's that night instead! We are also booked at Chefs de France the first night we are there - strictly to see Remy - but the food doesn't look too bad - I will try the lobster bisque!!

Thanks for the review of the wave

Your meal looked totally delicious :cloud9:

Glad you like them! Remy was great, I hope you enjoy your time at Chefs!

Glad to have you here! The GFC was nice, definitely a really nice meal and Disney experience! The Wave was such a surprise to me, I really enjoyed it a lot! I have a weakness for scallops! :rotfl:

They did have a lot of non-seafood options, too!

I did notice that. I don't know if it was new or what. We went at the end of October and The Wave one I saw on the DIS said it was updated 11/10 so I am not sure why it is different. I was glad I took pictures of the menu though or I would not have remembered what these were called!

The Wave really surprised me, but in a good way! I hope that you and your son enjoy it!

Co-workers of mine were at WDW a year ago. They loved The Wave & ate there a few times (it was convenient; they stayed at the CR). It was their favorite!

I can't wait to hear your 'Ohana review!!!!! :flower3: Hope it was good for you since we go in December!
Oh, Ohana was definitely in the top 3 for me. Actually tied for second I think. I really loved it! Thanks for reading. :)

Great GF review. I am planning on ordering the steak on Sunday and hope it's good.
I hope you enjoy your meal! :goodvibes

Mmmmm I really should stop reading reviews before lunch time! It makes my frozen diet meal even less appetizing!

Wow I love the food reviews so far, the food looks so good, especially at The Wave, I'm hungry now

:rotfl: Yes I could see that. I just ate a not-so-appetizing breakfast, oh how I wish I was at the world to eat!

Thanks! I am glad you are reading. Those food pics make me hungry every single time! Those, and the Ohana ones literally make my mouth water!

So since our dinner was early at 5:00, we had a little snack that evening before we left the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. I had heard about this great use of a snack credit from the Main Street Bakery and decided we had to try it.

Wow it was HUGE. We actually split this up and all 4 of us shared it. My husband took a scoop of the ice cream, and I took a cookie. Then the kids split the other cookie and ice cream scoop. it was plenty for all of us!

This is definitely a great use of a single snack credit!

Can't wait to read more. I love all the pictures. Everything looks so good.

So glad to see you were able to use a snack credit for the ice cream cookie sandwich at Mainstreet Bakery. Thought I'd seen somewhere that it no longer counted as a snack credit. Plan to get one myself in December!

I thought so, too! But they said it was fine. :goodvibes

I can not wait to see and read more of your reviews. You went to many of the same restaurants I plan on getting ADR's for next October some we have tried but most will be first times for us. We will be on the DxDP for the 1st time ever and are looking forward to it. Your pics came out great :thumbsup2

This makes me very happy!
Yay! :)

So our next day started off at DHS. We were actually the first ones to park in the parking lot. My husband wanted me to take a picture of this. LOL

We were there early for breakfast at Hollywood & Vine. Now I know this is a place that typically is not looked upon fondly here. And I agree. We have eaten here several times before and it’s typically just OK. Not good but just OK. However, this time they have added Special Agent Oso to the character line up. My son is CRAZY for Oso. I mean he just loves him. So I knew we would have to eat here on our trip just to see Oso. It also ended up having an added bonus for us, which I will go into later.

Much to our surprise, this breakfast was actually pretty good. There wasn’t anything that I didn’t like. I tried some things I normally don’t eat and they were good. My husband had his beloved grits and sausage so he thought this place was just great because of that. We had an 8:05 ADR and everything was warm and fresh.

So, here are our plates:

Pretty self explanatory, but it was Biscuits & Gravy, Ham, Bacon, Potato casserole, Corn Beef Hash, and scrambled eggs.

Grits & Cheese, Sausage Links, Ham, Croissant, and two different kinds of Eggs.

My son and daughter’s plates were about the same, here is hers:

Blueberry Muffin, Mickey Waffles, Ham, Watermelon, Pineapple, & Cantaloupe. I think my son’s had eggs on his as well.

Everything was fine. Not extraordinary or anything, and I would not eat here if it wasn’t for wanting to see Oso. But for a breakfast, it filled us up and the joy in my son’s face when he got to meet Oso was totally worth it!

We also met Handy Manny and Leo & June from the Little Einsteins

All of them actually came to our table twice, so that was fun for the kids as well. They also have singing songs and dancing every 15-20 minutes and the kids enjoyed that.

So, I mentioned a bonus from eating here. I used the tip I talked about when we ate at the Crystal Palace – asking for the bill early at a buffet. We did this and paid for everything before we were ready to head out by 8:50. This worked out so great because they had a special area that they took us to. We were held here until the park opened, but we got to be first in line for rope drop, well ahead of all of the other people waiting to get into the park. This worked out really great for us and we were able to get these:

We also walked right on to TSM and didn’t have a wait. We were leaving the park early so I was thrilled that we would get to ride TSM twice before we had to leave.

After TSM we went over the get our picture with these guys:

COST BREAKDOWN:

I would not pay this for this meal normally as I just don’t think the food supports this price, but it was worth every penny for my son to be able to meet Oso.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
Meeting Oso was great and made this meal worth it for us. Getting into the park ahead of everyone else had a nice bonus factor to it as well. This is not somewhere I would make a regular dining experience, but one time just to meet Oso was well worth it for our family. My overall rating would be “Just OK”. If you don’t have kids wanting to meet a character at this dining location, I definitely would skip it.

UP NEXT:
Le Cellier for lunch!

I really like your shirts. We are going to attempt to make some for our trip next year. I agree about Hollywood and Vine. We had dinner there a few years ago and yuck. We won't be doing it again. Your DS looked very happy to meet OSO.:)
