Hello, Our family and I are thinking of going to Disney for New Years. We will be a Family of 4 2 adults and 2 kids DD6 and DD3 at the time of trip Dec 27 2008 through new Years 2009. I know it is pretty early but I am wondering what disney is like at this time. What is a must see and what is not? Is it especially crowded? Any input would be helpful.

Welcome to the DIS:banana: It is never too early to begin your research.
To answer just one of your questions. The time between Christmas and New Years is an Extremely busy time at WDW. In fact the parks may even close due to reaching capacity during this time. You will want to do careful research in the coming year to know exactly what you want to see and do and to plan accordingly. It is not a time to think you will be able to see and do everything, it is just too busy. You can hit your highlights, enjoy the wonderful decorations and special programs and have a wonderful time, but it will not be a relaxing vacation where you experience all the rides and attractions that Disney has to offer.

Cormad4, welcome to the Dis. Hopefully has given you excellent advice.

Like Hopefully, my family has also vacationed in WDW over the Christmas and New Year's holidays. It was indeed hectic and chaotic at times, but with careful planning, we were able to enjoy our time in the theme parks and our time in the resorts. We spent over 3 weeks there and did a lot of resort-hopping. I think we stayed in 5 different resorts during that vacation. It was an action-packed trip, but one that I will remember fondly forever. (My parents and sister's family joined my family on that vacation so we had quite the crowd.)

What is not to miss? The Christmas decorations in the theme parks. Also, the Christmas decorations in the resorts. Like each theme park, each resort decorates a little differently. It really is a lot of fun to visit as many parks & resorts as you can so that you can take in all the subtle nuances of the holiday season.

Also, make sure to also visit "The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights:" click here for Disney's official webpage on the Osborne lights. And click here for the Dis' webpage on it -- make sure to view the video clip on that webpage. The light show is truly amazing. Wow!

Have fun researching your future trip. The Dis is an excellent website that is filled with information. With what you learn here, you should be able to plan a wonderful trip for your family.

It is the most crowded that WDW ever is.

Scared yet?

Anyway ... NYE is really a fun time to go but you need to get to the parks early and go with the flow. We go every year between Christmas and New Year's, this time from 12/26 - 1/5.

If this is a "once in a lifetime trip" then I would recommend that you go at another time. It's way too busy.

Thank you for the feedback. My wife and myself have made numerous trips to WDW in the past but this will be the first for our two girls. The crowds do not really scare us too much as we are both pretty easy going and tend to go with the flow if the kids will let us.I am actually more interested to know what types of special shows ect. are at disney at this time. The entire family loves Christmas lights and decorations and will look forward to seeing how the best in the world display them.
