Okay, don't get me wrong...I love my DVR. BUT...

When I recorded on a VCR, I always started my recording about 2 minutes before the show time and then programmed it to continue recording until 5-10 minutes after the show was scheduled to end (just in case).

I can't adjust my DVR to do that...it cuts out at :00 straight up. I missed the last 5 minutes of CSI last week, and then last night, for some reason, Rudolph was running long and I lost the last three minutes of it.

I am annoyed! Is there anyway to adjust the time to end recording, or am I at the mercy of the networks to actually start their programming when they say they will?

Bleh!

do you have "tivo" or your cable-issued DVR?

our "tivo" allows us to start early/end late...

My cable DVR lets me adjust the start/end times of any recording.

I think you should be able to. Look for "recording options" when you set a show to record or set a season pass. I was able to do this on my Tivo and Moxi, which is what I have now through cable.

Hmmm...mine is cable-issued. I will investigate this when I get home. If I have been missing the ends of everything due to my own ignorance, I will be even more miffed!! :teeth:

The cable company DVRs don't have all the nifty features that the TiVos do. They'll catch up eventually (though by then TiVos will be even better :)).

My cable issued DVR lets me adjust the start & stop times. It also will adjust shows that run long if they are listed correctly in the on-screen cable guide (ie the Lost expanded episodes). Check out your menu & I bet you will find it - I've had my DVR for over a year from Cox, so it is wouldn't necessarily have the newest bells & whistles.

We missed the end of Rudolph yesterday because LOST started to record on a different channel :(. I'm pretty PO'd about that.

Our cable company DVR has this option, so I'd imagine most do at this point. The main problem is, the networks are doing that on purpose---I think they really hate DVRs since people can skip over the commercials, but personally, I used to do that with VCRs too, so I don't understand why they're so bothered by DVRs all of a sudden. :confused3
