We have one portable dvd player which was fine when we had one child and when ds was an infant .:) Now my son is closing in on the big 2 and I doubt he'll be happy to do nothing for 7 hours in a car while his sister is playing her gameboy and leapster, listening to music and watching new and favorite movies.

My options: Buy another single portable dvd player and let them each have their own. That way they'd each have their own set of movies to enjoy.

OR buy the one player that comes with 2 screens (and I think I can even have the player part in the front so I can control it but I"m not sure about that) and one player. That way they can share a movie when they're both awake and wanting a movie.

Am I missing any other options? (can't do a laptop--I get mine through school and if anything happened to it....I don't even want to go there!)

And I know this is a ridiculous question but I'm going to assume that in the car my ds won't wear headphones for the movie:confused3 He likes to wear his sister's but there's no music coming through--he just likes to wear them (as well as beads and hats--ah the joys of having a big sister! lol) I'll just keep the volume loud enough for them hear and keep the radio/cd player speakers on in the front only.

Thank you!

Rachel

We are a big road trip family; both my kids took their first 20+ hour road trips at 2 months and we've been doing it every summer since. Here's what I can tell you about the portable DVD players. Most have two headphone jacks, so you should be able to let both kids listen to one movie without having to listen yourself. My DH and I really enjoy the time when the kids are watching a movie so we can talk or listen to a book ourselves. They will be 11 and 8 for our next trip and this year we have two DVD players - no more "discussions" about whose turn it is to pick the movie or which movie will be next. Good luck and have a great trip!

MY Dd just hit the big 2...and she will wear the headphones with our portable DVD. I'd maybe put in a movie at home and let him try the headphones.

I am looking for a DVD player for a couple of car trips we have planned. I never came accross one with two screens. Can you point me to where I might find that?

Tallent- we have that DVD player and love it. The only drawbacks are no remote and no battery. We bought an external battery that lasts approx 8 hours, so it works well for us. Enjoy!

Those dual screen models look great.. like the idea of the remote on the Polaroid one. I still can't get over how much great stuff I find on DISboards!! Even help with this - so cool - thanks guys!

Just one word of caution about the dual screen ones - we had one from Wal Mart that we bought 3 years ago. It was great, and during long trips DS would have the slave screen hooked up to his X-Box, which is also a DVD player, and DD would have the other one. They could hook them together to watch the same movie if they wanted. Unfortunately, one of the inputs where you put the cable in to link them has broken through use (and probably a bit of rough use and pulling by accident) and now it doesn't allow a proper connection (its on and off). So be gentle because this is not something that can be fixed! We now have two separate DVD players, and my sons has inputs that can take the X-Box connection.

It will agree though, the DVD players save us on our drives to Florida! DH and I actually get to relax, listen to music, and have a private conversation.

We, too, have a DVD with 2 screens and games. We haven't used the games yet, but probably will Monday evening. Heeheeeheee we're leaving!!!!!!:cool1:

I was against them at first, but they're great for driving around cities (like Orlando) While DH and I navigate, they don't ask 50million questions!:thumbsup2

I bought our dks each their own portable DVD. That way each can watch what they want when they want.

I don't know what I would do w/out our DVD players. For one we live in Atlanta and if you ever get caught in rush hour traffic - you could be there for A WHILE! Also, we live about 5 hours from our families (they are in Alabama) and we drive there about once a month. It really comes in handy during those trips!!!

We bought one with 2 screens from Walmart. Most of the dual screens you have to watch the same movie on both, but I just came across one that you can play two different movies at the same time. I would check Best BUy, Circuit City , Target or Walmart. They have started to come down in price.
