DVD players at BCV?

I saw a recent discussion about DVD players not being in some rooms at some resorts. (Seriously a bummer as borrowing a movie to play while winding down at night or to keep my son occupied while we get ready in the AM was a real perk.)

We're headed to BCV later this month and my son will be receiving the Stars Wars trilogy for his birthday. In the interest of five year old harmony, do we need to bring a laptop and external drive so he can watch his present, or do the BCV rooms still have DVD players? We are in a 2 bed lock off.

I'm sorry to say that all the DVD players at Beach Club were removed as part of the recent "renovation" of BCV. The Jacuzzi tubs have also been replaced by regular bathtubs as part of this same "renovation."

Since I believe the BCV renovation is now complete (you may wish confirmation from other members), you will need a laptop with DVD capabilities.

Best wishes,
Dave

I stayed at BLT in June & there wasn't one in the room. I went to the front desk & requested one. It was in the room, later when we returned.

I was told BLT only has a few available by request.

I'm not sure if BCV has any available. Hopefully someone who has been recently can verify. Or maybe call member services?

Happy birthday to your son & have a wonderful vacation!

Thanks for the replies. Looks like we'll be bringing a laptop then.

Interesting how borrowing DVDs is listed as a member benefit (even being called out as still being an available benefit for those purchasing resale!) when they've removed the means by which those DVDs will be viewed.

Has anyone tried recently to borrow a DVD at BCV?

Believe they left the players in the larger villas - the 1 & 2 bedrooms. IIRC, they did at the BWV. No players in the studios there, either. There isn't room for one in that TV/table/bed combo unit.

BWV studios don't have a DVD player, but we just requested one when we picked up a DVD at Community Hall, & there was one in the room (fully connected) when we got back later.

We had a BLT 2 BR earlier this year, it had a DVD player. Also the community hall still has 'rental' movies. Makes me think they don't have a clue, they 'rent' movie but no player. Has management lost it mind???:rolleyes1

My understanding is that you are able to request one although BCV renovation is new enough I haven't read any reports on it. But that is what has happened with other DVC resorts where they've removed them (usually from the studios). I'd suggest you request it right away though so you have it and aren't waiting an hour or two before getting one up to the room.

Now that I think about it - we did a quick stay in a renovated AK studio a while back and I don't think that had a DVD player and you are absolutely right that there is no place to put it with the pull down bed. Hopefully the one bedroom portion of our two bed lock off at BCV will have a DVD player, but we'll bring the external DVD drive just in case (I suspect we'll be bringing a laptop either way).

Are DVDs available to borrow in the store, since BCV does not have a community hall?

Yes, the counter next to the clothing has the DVDs.

We just got back from a studio at a renovated Beach Club room and no DVD player. My daughter had also brought along a Star Wars video to watch and there was nowhere to play it. On another note, there is a drawer on the pull down bunk on the right side that had a lock on it. We couldn't figure out what might be in there. Any ideas?

I think it may be more than just the studios. I was in a newly-removed BCV 1 BEDROOM in June and there was definitely no DVD.

Best wishes,
Dave

In June we had two villas, a 2BR and a studio. We were the first to stay in these two renovated rooms at BLT. Neither the studio nor the 2BR had a DVD player in any of the rooms. Each TV did have the connector box for you to plug in a player, computer or a camera.

We were at BCV in June and immediately noticed missing DVD player (we were specifically looking for it after staying at Poly villas where they also didn't have them. We requested DVD player immediately...we drive and like to unwind the first evening with a movie. After 3 calls over three days we finally got one but without the remote-we could only push the play button. None of the other buttons worked. Two more calls over two more days and we finally got a remote. It didn't work because the batteries were dead. We gave up.

I'm confused. I thought you could rent DVDs at the BC Marketplace, free for DVC members. Yet, there are no DVD players in the villas? That seems really ironic and dub, if that's the case. Whoever came up with that? No ice makers, no ceiling fans, now no DVD players. What additions did DVC members get? Sorry, I hope I'm completely misunderstanding this.

We're suppose to bring our own now. Typical of late, the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. Why 'rent' DVDs with no player???

I was told a few months that they would be available by request. I then asked about the DVDs, would they be available and was told yes.
