dvd player in room

No they dont....TVs are standard 13" ....You could easily bring your own DVD player if you need to, and just hook it up to the TV.....

...Maybe. The incabin TV's also do not have video inputs, only an antenna connection.

If this is a question in the idea of giving the kids something to watch to keep them occupied, there's more you should know.

There are a bunch of channels that run nothing but movies. Two in particular run nothing but Disney animated.

But to be honest, if this is for kids, I'd be surprised if they spend any time in the cabin at all. They have almost an entire deck of function space to have fun in with the kid counselors who will really make sure they have a fun time. The Kids on the cruise we were just on were so eager to go back there that they'd half the time leave right after eating dinner.

I totally agree with MarkRG!

There's so much to do onboard that they definitely won't want to sit around watching DVDs :boat:

I agree too, although I must admit that on our Christmas cruise, I HAD to watch "A Christmas Story" a couple of times because that is my tradition. Thankfully they ran it every three hours throughout the cruise.
We got a neat portable DVD player at Wal-Mart last Christmas, and even with being used and abused on at least two flights a month, it's still working great. If you think you would have other use for it, I highly recommend buying one. It was cheap back then, and there might be sales now.

Everyone's children are different. My DS loved the club ther first cruise, but only goes an hour here or there ever since. He enjoys watching the movies and cartoons that DCL provides on the TV. On our last cruise, I watched a few of the adult movies (okay, that sound s like porn, I just mean non-children's :D ) on the TV. The suites have VCR's but not the regular cabins. I've never brought a DVD player, but can see why some family's would bring one. :flower:

The TVs in the suites had input jacks on the front . . . we used our portable DVD player; we had RCA plugs with us.

Unless your just looking for in room entertainment (things to do while your in your stateroom)...keep in mind there is a movie theater onboard.

Sigh. This is not the answer I was hoping to hear. So no DVD players, no WiFi, and far too few ports of call (Aug Repo).

How about books? Is there at least a reasonable library?

I used my laptop for movies. Some of us got together and watched Monty Python in some friends' cabin on THEIR laptop.

There are some books available for borrowing in the Cove Cafe. They also accumulated some paperbacks during the course of the May repo that were just lying around. I took one to my cabin, read it and brought it back. Nobody asked me to sign it out. The hardbacks they keep in the cabinet must be signed out. Seemed like recent titles but there aren't a lot of them.

On the Repo cruise they did have lots of activities scheduled.

Thank you, TDC Nala. Yes, we'll have laptops -- but I'm guessing if the staterooms don't have players then the ship likely won't have videos available?

I'll hope they have a good lecture and enrichment program!

Brought my own DVDs. Get a CD wallet and carry them, don't take the big plastic cases.

Don't count on a library...DCL does not have one. They have a small room they call a game room on Deck 2 but all it has is a few paperbacks (probably what guests have left behind) and a few board games.

I am also on the Repo and need nothing to keep me occupied....I can't wait for 2 weeks of relaxation and fun!!! This will be my 14th DCL cruise and I still have not done some things onboard!!! I love the idea of the many sea days that we will have...those are the best...being at sea....feeling the breeze....I can't wait!!!

WiFi may be up and running by the time the repo cruise rolls around...they seem to be in a testing phase now, according to some posts this week.

The suites also have DVD players now. We sailed in Feb expecting a VCR but we got a DVD player in our cabin. ::MickeyMo

I am not trying to flame anyone but why would you spend all this money on a cruise and sit in your room watching dvd's or sitting in front of your laptop?
I spend all day and night on the computer at home and will be glad not to be tied to this infernal, yet beloved, little machine for a week!

We took our portable DVD player two years ago and we never once used it. We were so busy with other things we never had the time. I wished we would have just left it at the port in our car at the Rad.

While I totally expected to be running around the ship and Castaway Cay on our upcoming cruise, it now seems that I'll be in between chemo treatments when we sail. So I would be thinking about bringing along my laptop so I can watch a DVD of my choice. Of course, I'm pretty easy-going when it comes to entertainment, so I'll probably be fine with whatever they're presenting on TV that week. I might be able to go to the theatre (which would be the best choice), but at this point, who knows... so keep in mind that we have no idea what personal situation the OP is facing. Could be little ones who need some time away from all the activity, could be someone with a chronic illness, could be someone who just wants to have an hour or two to chill away from the hustle and bustle of everything going on onboard!

Oh, and yeah, I'm not cancelling my cruise at all! I am still scrimping and saving to go and I'm still determined to go. These drat terrorist cells aren't going to make me change my plans and dreams! (And my doctor already said that he's going to do his best to make sure that we can go, and we'll time my treatments to enable that.)

You answered my question ElenitaB. I hope your treatments go well and you enjoy your cruise.

The reasoning behind the WiFi/laptop is that 15-30 minutes access each day can prevent a whole day of worry. For folks with family stationed in distant areas a quick exchange of daily email seems essential. Similarly, many of us don't go into "complete downtime" just because we are enjoying a change in scenery. We might still want to monitor a few issues related to work, committee activities, investments, or other interests.

My personal reasoning behind the DVDs is simply silly. We don't watch movies at home (have no equipment for doing so other than the laptops) ... but have allowed movie watching to recently creep into our vacations. It started when one our timeshare properties began offering us one free video rental with each stay. The habit grew a little with our first DVC stay (unlimited video rentals - one at a time?). We were surprised by HAL's Ryndam earlier this year: DVD players in the staterooms with free video rentals from their library. Ok, even on a cruise we found time to enjoy a few movies during afternoon "naps."

Repeating an idea I posted in another thread: lack of in-room entertainment, WiFi, book library, lecture series (etc) are probably not deal breakers for shorter itineraries -- but for a 14 night cruise with plenty of "at sea" days -- I wish choices in how I use my time.

we didnt have the access either. would of been nice in the am when the kids got up early or to wind down at night. they did watch the disney channel of course instead. :earsboy:
