OK...looking to purchase these for our full sized van for a trip this summer. My husband says that you can't play video games on most of them due to not having a "RCA hookup for video game"? I have no clue, How does everyone else play their video games on these things? Are we looking for the wrong thing?

I want the type that the monitors go onto the back of the seats. Our van is not equipped for a drop down screen of any type.

all help appreciated,
Esmerelda

Esmerelda,

We don't have the dual screen ones, yet. I just recently checked them out at best buy. We have two individual units now. They have RCA hook ups, but you need an adapter to plug in the gaming system to electricity. One that will run off a cigerette(sp) lighter. I'm pretty sure the dual screen one had the hook ups on the base unit. We looked at getting the dual screens because the boys end up watching the same movies usually. This way they could each have a screen. Good luck.

We have a dual screen DVD player, and the kids do use the extra screen for games (xbox) - it's worked out better than I thought for that reason alone. I bought it originally so they could both watch the movies easily. But it really worked out that our 9yo watches movies, our 16 yo plays xbox with the extra screen. (our 18 yo dd listens to IPOD and sleeps for large chunks of time LOL)

I'll ask our son how it hooks up - I'm thinking he just plugs it in like he normally does, but let me check.

sidenote: We bought the dual screen dvd player (and it does hang on the seat backs) even though we had a drop down TV on the ceiling of our van - that TV broke about 2-3years after we bought the van. It was cheaper to buy the 2 screen portable than to fix the built in. Plus the one in the middle was harder for the kids to see in the middle row than the 2 screens were. I swore I wouldn't spend the $ on that option again. Well, we did get it in our new Suburban - just because we bought a used one and it was there, no choice really. But it's not one of those options I worry about anymore - they'll still use the portable one, too, now.

edit: He says the xbox plugs into the screen using the same connections (holes) that the DVD player uses- un-connect the DVD player/primary screen, and plug in the xbox - it has red, yellow & white color coded connectors that unplug, replaced with xbox connectors. Hope this helps. (16 yo boys know more about this stuff than I do. :rotfl: )
