DVC'srs....D23?

At $75 for membership (which I might be able to talk myself into) plus $50 for "international shipping" - no way! DisneyShopping lost my business long ago with their crazy shipping charges.

...I expect D23 members will get the same early previews for things like new/rehabbed attractions, etc. as do AP and DVC members now.

We are both DVC and AP, and have been to a couple of the "members only" previews, and they never verified our right to be there....

I don't know if anyone has already mentioned this but...I was watching the View today and they gave everyone in the audience a free years subscription to D23! I opened up my email tonight and there was my offer for it!

i joined today, I hope it is worth it. Huge Disney fan, we will try it i guess and if we like it then we will renew every year, if not then I guess we are out 75.00.

Disney's marketing department is the best in the business - they could sell ice cubes to an Eskimo - but I just don't see how this "membership" will survive in the long haul with so many other disney membership type things running (DVC, AP, and even club penguin for kids) While the contents of the site are a little intriguing, and the charter member pins are ok, I think I'll hold onto my $70 + $60 (pins).

The last FAN Club I joined was the Osmonds......

Maybe the target market isn't "fan club" age LOL!

And I"m betting it was free, too. I thought fan clubs WERE free, but then, I've never joined one.

I'm not planning on joining. From what I read, I don't think it is a wise purchase for us right now. If I started hearing great reviews and about all kinds of amazing perks then maybe I would change my mind in the future.

I'm definitely keeping my eye on the D23 Expo since it will be during the exact dates of a Disneyland trip we are taking! I wonder if the parks are going to be more crowded because of this event, usually September has fewer crowds and nice weather (that's one of the reasons we go every Sept). But this trip will coincide with my husbands work trip so we are locked into the dates. Hopefully the crowds in the park won't be too bad and we will be able to enjoy the D23 Expo, sounds like a lot of fun!

I have received my email with the link and info and initially thought that this was way too much money and not something I would pursue. Then yesterday I was shopping at the Disney Store where they had an open copy of the Premier Issue on display. I'll say I was impressed and even considered buying a copy - $15.95 + tax (I think). I asked the CM if she knew if this Premier Issue was the same issue you would receive if joining? She couldn't answer that. So, does anyone know? :confused3

Anyone know how long it takes for shipping? I ordered the membership plus one of the pins and a couple of t-shirts on 3/11 and they haven't shipped them yet. Just curious.

I got 2 of the 3 pins I ordered in 5 days. The last pin, Tink, is on back order. Still have not received any emails for shipping of the membership.

I am in the group of those waiting to see. I usually love all things Disney but the benefits listed for $75 seems steep.
I already get the DVC magazinep-Disney Files and Celebrations and I am guessing there won't be much else new in it BUT if others on the DIS start reporting good things about D23- I might change my mind :rolleyes1

I just got confirmation that DSis is gifting me with the D23 membership this year! She says it's a Thank you, for the planing I've done for our upcoming Family vacation/DCL cruise!

One lucky person here,
Bobbi:goodvibes

if you are a massive collector.. or a pack disney rat like me.. I think som would think it is worthwhile.. if you need to sample the 1st issue it is now being showcase at a few TDS and the 1st issue looks really great...with your $75.00 you get 4 magazine which is individually sold for 14.99 or 15.99.. so if you get 4 magazines that is a total of $60 plus the special surprise gift plus the certificate which to a few is more important being to frame it and along the way tell this kids.. kids kids... etc that "look I was a charter member" you dont have to decide now you have till end of the year to avail all charter benefits...

Ok..I know I wasnt convince at 1st but after seeing the book.. I do want it.. :guilty:

I don't want to be a bit of a downer, but I can't really justify the price, particularly in the manner that you did (saying that the magazines' newstand price equals the price of joining). I say this because I can't justify buying ANY magazine for more than a few bucks. They should be selling that magazine cheaply, or even giving it away considering I am sure that it is packed with advertisements and other "opportunities" for you to spend your money.

I know that Disney is a business and is therefore free to make money however they want, but this whole premise seems a bit kooky to me. I am not against a magazine or site, but at those prices, there is no way that it will be a success. As a mega Disney fan who owns DVC and travels to the parks religiously, there is no way that I would pay for this. My guess is that only a select few would, and there is no money in "a select few." It will most likely disappear rather quickly.

Thanks, I'm all set!

I was looking at all the D23 merchandise and apparel that is available for purchase and can't help but wondering....why doesn't DVC offer this to us members. It's crazy that the member site does not have a merchandise and apparel section for DVC.

It makes little sense. There are a lot of us who would love to wear DVC gear, especially while vacationing. If I were Disney, I would make cheap gear (shirts, hats, bags) available at all of the resorts. I stress free, as this would be insanely good advertising for them. The more shirts that are being worn around the parks, the more conversations that strike up on buses and lines. If they had 1,000 people wearing DVC shirts at all times walking around the parks, that would another 1,000 volunteer salesmen working on their behalf.

On a related note, I always scratch my head when I go into a restaurant or other business and see them selling t-shirts for some really high price. I have seen shirts that cost about $5 to be made being sold for $20+. A rational person would sell them as cost since any shirt in circulation is an advertisement for your establishment. This is probably the same guy who then pays big bucks for a newspaper advertisement that will reach less people than a few t-shirts.

So I looked at the website. Am I missing something or do you just 4 magazines and an electronic newsletter for $75??? The website apparently is available to anyone.

+1. I passed on this one.
$75 for four magazines is a little over the top... a LOT over the top. Of course there's always the "limited edition" merchandise. It's always limited edition, millions of limited edition items everywhere.
