Hi!

It was great reading the thread "profile of a DVC-er". However, I feel a little "different" as most of the replies were from people who are currently married or in commited relationships. I was married for 19 years, but have been happily single since 2001. I am in my 40's. I have two daughters from the marriage, Becky is 19 and Sarah is 13. Oh, and Chloe the dog is 4 and our two cats Maddy and Rainbow are 5.

We live in Long Island in NY. I'm a teacher, Becky is in College and Sarah is going into 9th grade. My first WDW trip was in 1972, and my kids are total Disney nuts, since they have been brainwashed since birth, LOL.

I did see a few singles on the thread I mentioned above, but very very few. I am starting this one to see, out of curiousity, if there are more single DVC-er's than there appear to be from reading that thread.

So, if you're single, no matter what the circumstances, I hope you'll take the time to reply to this thread and let me know. I'll feel a little less alone here in DVC. :charac2:

Nah, you're not alone. I mostly lurk on this board, but I'm a single again in my mid-30's with 4 cats for companions currently. My trips to WDW are usually with my Mom who's as Disney crazed as I am :earsgirl:

I'm sure I won't be single again forever, but I'm more than happy to take my Mom with me on my pilgrimages to the House of the Mouse. Too bad I'm already out of vacation time this year :(

I am single.

I am in a long term relationship with a man who is the "anti-Disney" so I just go alone most of the time and have a great time!

Im not single as such, but I too am with a man who is less interested in Disney than me !! Therefore I go on my own with my two boys age 5 and 8 and we are going for 3 weeks in October!

Cannot wait...love to do exactly what I want !

Denise :cheer2:

I bought into DVC as a single in 1994 and am still single now. DVC is about quality vacations and we singles do take them and deserve them just as much as anyone else.

Yes, I'd suspect that we are in a small minority of DVC owners. Sometimes I get a weird look when people ask me if I'm at the Resort with my family and I answer "no". As long as I'm having a good time and the people around me are too it's ok.

Another single DVC owner here. I'm not sure I would have ever started taking solo trips if I hadn't gone to Orlando on business a lot (7 times in one year) as I was living in CA and many people either were not interested in Disney or just went to DL.

I just didn't think about going solo at that time. When I was there on business I HAD to go and learned how much fun it can be. About half my trips are solo and the rest are with friends.

WDW and DVC are great for singles! I am a single with family and it's by far one of the nicest and most comfortable places to vacation as a single. Nice thread. Thanks for starting it. I have a number of friends who are single who go to WDW and are also DVC members and sometimes our paths cross, but the friends I've made are not excluded to singles. We all meet from time to time on our various trips, and it's a pleasant mix of families, couples and singles who are truly single as well as singles with kids.

I became single in 1992, did the DVC tour in 1995 (mistakenly thought I couldn't afford it since I was a single), and bought in 1997 after I finally wised up!

I do have a teen son, but between work, school & friends he hasn't come on a dvc trip in a couple of years. I love my dvc, and use my points as often as I can - almost every month even if it's just a weekend. Most of my trips are solo, but I have many friends I meet up with. Sometimes I bring a friend with me, but it doesn't bother me at all to go solo!

Hi:wave2:
Single here too with a dd, 2 dogs, and a sun conure that barks:rolleyes: (my dd has a beta fish and a land crab::yes:: )

I'm in my 30s, work at a school and just lovin' life the way it is now. I can't wait for our next trip!

Single male, 38 and holding, who just got into DVC this year, I take my two DD's, 6 and 8, to Disney, makes for some great moments for the three of us.

single as of last year. DH of 30yrs passed away. He only went to WDW to make me happy(I think he secertly enjoyed himself). Said he only went so he could eat at Le Cellier(LOL). I took DSIS for her first trip last December and bought into SSR. Disney is a one place I really feel comfortable visiting as a single. I have always been a stay at home mom. DD 31, DS 30, DS 25. A new first time Grandma. I would like to do volunter work at the Hospital DD works for. DD is single and planning on looking into a resale a VWL. Her and I are going for a short trip in October. Doing a lot of firsts this trip, MNSSHP and F&W. In all our trips DD has never been to Adventurers club, so we are going to do this also. Taking my extended family for a trip to SSR in 12/05. There will be 4 generations, can't wait. Susan

Another single DVCer here.

Married for 10 years never took any type of vacation. SIngle for about 60 minutes and decided it was time for my then 7 year old to see the Mouse at his House. Trip number 8 is coming in Sept. She is now 11 and knows how to use an AP. We will have three trips durning 1 calendar year with our AP and now DVC will make sure we have many more for the next 50 years.

The last four single life years have been the best.
There is life after divorce and it is in Walt Disney World.

Thanks for starting such a great topic for all of us to chat about.

Lori

I am also single and in my mid-thirties. I love sharing my DVC with others in may family and with my friends. I have only been a member less than a year and had a trip with my brother, going with aunts and uncles in July and with Dad in December. Next year plan on taking my best friend and her two kids that I went to WDW a few years ago.

Wow I am so happily surprised by all the responses. When I first posted this I wondered if it was going to get any replies at all!

First I have to say I totally related to Lori. My ex would go to WDW but only begrudingly, and only once every 3-4 years. I took the kids and went without him a couple of times even when I was married. BUT my first WDW trip post-divorce took place within 3 months. We went three times in total that year, have AP's and have gone 3-4 times every year since.

Susan I am so sorry to hear about your loss, but it's so nice to see enjoying WDW with so many generations. I regret that I never went with my Mom, and she too passed away last year. That trip you have planned to SSR sounds terrific, let us know how it goes.

I feel totally comfortable at WDW as a single woman and I'm glad to see that's the general sentiment here. Sometimes I take friends (singles or couples, I don't discriminate LOL), but more often than not it's me and the kids. I don't want to be lulled into a sense of false comfort, but I do feel safe there. (But yes I double lock the door at night--hey I'm from NY, at least I don't bring extra locks! LOL)

Whether or not I remarry I am very happy I bought my DVC. But I do think it may play into who I am willing to date--No WDW haters need apply!:cheer2:

Another single DVC'er from Mass here. We (my 15yr old son) and I are new to DVC but not WDW. I wish I had bought when we started going 6 years ago and it was about 65/point! Hey, it's never too late, right? I started taking him when he was 9 and we've gone quite a bit since then. Even AP holders' this year too! And I rented a car for my first time this past May as well!! ::yes:: My son & I like to go just the 2 of us since that is how we have always gone. We did bring a friend and his mother once 3 yrs ago, but the friend was kinda whiny and his mom pandered to him all the time. Wasn't too much fun for me and DS. BUT, I am trying to get my 2 sisters to go with me next year for a girls only. That will be fun!!!

Yep, I find it's not always easy to travel with others, especially parents whose style of parenting differs from mine. My favorite trips are when it's me and my two daughters, but at least once I am going to do WDW solo and do everything I want without having to consider anyone else.

Like you Tink, I'd LOVE a trip with my two sisters alone, no kids, no husbands (my sisters are both married). I've been trying to get them to go for years but now that I'm a DVC member I think I am going to tempt them with a "free" room using my points. How can they resist?

:sunny:

Another single BCV DVC owner here. I bought because I have been taking my 9 year old granddaughter to WDW since she was 2. I now have a new granddaughter 7mos that I can't wait to turn into a Disney kid too! I've taken 3 DVC trips so far. Twice I've taken friends & my granddaughter and last February just my 80 year old father and I went. I would love to do a solo trip someday.

I'm single as well. I'm 23 and bought this year because I knew if I didn't do it now I'd never do it because I'd always be coming up with excuses! I am sure I will take my family but for right now the only trip I have planned is a girls only F&W trip in Nov!

I am single man, from Kansas. I am 39, never married in life.
now read this carefully.

I have no children or grandchildren.
I do have a niece

I doubt, very few people on this discussion board, are near my age in life, never married, with no children in their lives.

I think it's great that you love Disney World, and don't find it odd that you do. If we didn't already realize it this thread is proof positive there's all sorts of people in all sorts of circumstances that are Disney Nuts. It's clear to me that you don't need to be married or have kids to appreciate Walt's Dream.

Yes I do have kids, but I have been going to WDW since long before either one was born and I intend to go long after they leave the nest. I'm close to 50 and will be near 90 when my DVC membership is over. I remember watching the Mickey Mouse Club with my older sisters, and have pictures of myself wearing Mickey Ears at age 2. I vividly remember the wonderful world of color, all the Disney attractions at the World's Fair, all the great Disney animated and live action movies, etc, etc, etc. I can't remember when Walt wasn't in my life in one way or another.

I'm willing to bet that even those with kids go to WDW for themselves as much as for the kiddies. So you being into WDW, single and childless, doesn't surprise me. I'm already single, but if I had no kids I'd be there anyway!
