DVC website -- crazy inventory swing overnight and now unplanned maintenance

Hi all. I'm wondering if anybody else noticed a couple of unusual things overnight:
  • First, a LOT of inventory showed up this morning that has not been available for weeks. Crazy good stuff like BCV studios over Veteran's Day and entire weeks of BLT in November. Prior to that, it was unusual to see even a singleton night of BCV/BLT/BWV/VWL be available in October/November for more than a couple of hours.
  • Then, without notice sometime mid-morning, the website (or at least the reservation portion) went down for maintenance, with no indication of when it might be back.
I wonder if the former led to the latter, i.e., there was a bug that dumped a bunch of good room-nights into the online inventory, which when it was detected caused them to shut off reservations until they could fix the problem.

Ok, maybe I should go adjust my tinfoil hat. :joker:

Yes - I saw everything you are talking about. The scary part is that I took advantage of some of the incredible inventory becoming available by cancelling my existing reservation and rebooking - first week of December. Hope I'm not about to get shafted. :crazy2:

We're talking multiple nights being available for BW studio w/bw views, standard views, garden views and an entire week of AKV - Jambo House. Be frightened, be very frightened. How will MS handle these issues, i.e. I cancelled and rebooked in good faith but really may no longer have a room at the 'inn'?

I noticed that as well, after the problem at Vero Beach (overbooking villas) in the summer the system clearly has it's faults. They are expecting it up after 5pm.

i was on the site this morning & tried to book one of those nice inventories. during the process it immediately froze & jumped over to a website maintenance page. called ms, was on hold for only a minute but to no avail that particular room was gone. ms said they were not aware of any problems. but immediately went to quickly book the next room while the site still functioned. and it has been down on one computer using ie, up on another using firefox. still upset lost my treehouse though

I did notice lots of availability this morning...

I did the same thing... was able to snag BWV studio on NYE and Jan1.....

This is now on the log-in page.

Outage Notification:
Sorry, please be advised that we are currently experiencing a system outage with our reservation systems.

Bookings both online and via Member Services are currently unavailable. Our updates are taking longer than expected, but we expect to return to full functionality by 5:00 pm ET. Please note that this time is subject to change. We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to serving you at that time.

I'll cross my fingers that members aren't about to start getting uphappy phone calls.

I hope that everything is OK for the folks who cancelled and rebooked!

I was about to cancel and rebook myself when the "maintenance" started. Hope it works out for everyone. I was blown away when I saw that inventory this morning...

I suppose one "not great, but not catastrophic" option if the inventory dump was a bug would be for them to rollback every change (cancellation and reservation) since midnight (or later), when it all still looked fine to me. Here's hoping it doesn't come to that.

As much as I love what I was 'allegedly' able to rebook this morning, there is no arguing with your logic. Better that than be kicked to the street. :goodvibes

Can they do that? I would have no problem with this, at least I'd be guaranteed a room!

They can if they have a good IT infrastructure that includes continual snapshots of their database (so-called "continuous data protection"). But then again, we are talking Disney IT, so...

well now i am starting to worry. twice in our history of check-ins have we seen some families dealing with the overbooked rooms & being moved around situation. they were not notified until they arrived.

i did find it odd that i was able to book online after ms told they were unable to. :confused3

Wow, be afraid....be very afraid. Made my veterans day reservations at BLT 9 months ago. I can't even check it. That whole area is down. I will be checking after 5pm tonight. 25 days out and my reservation gets messed up.....I will be severely ticked.

Gee, I hope that my December reservation at VWL, made at the 11-month mark, is okay. I hope that wasn't one of the new inventory listings available.

Geez, I noticed the change too today. I need one night on Oct 20. There has been nothing for a week, no studios OR one bedrooms at any DVC resort on points.

Today I had 3 options for 1BRs. SS (no!) AKL savanna view (maybe) and BLT theme park view (points too high). I could not decide before the site crashed.

ARGH. Now I have to wait for the site to return, and hope some rooms are still there.

I was told that the outage was due to a Disney upgrade to their booking and reservation system and since the DVC uses their system, DVC was down also. Maybe the inventory given to CRO was dumped back to the DVC in error or by design due to the upgrade.
