DVC travel insurance

I just bought it today for the march reservations I made. It is $79 per reservation...not per person. I booked 2 rooms, it was $79 total

I was told that it is $79 per membership for a year of coverage. :confused3

:earsboy: Bill

It is $79 per UY of coverage.
It covers everyone on your reservation.
I inquired about it today.
The CM didn't seem anxious to sell it to me.
She gave me a number to call to ask about it
and said I could also purchase it on the Member Website.

I have trips planned for May, July and next Dec.
But my UY is December so I would have to purchase it twice.
Once for May and June and once for December.
I was hoping it would be a calender year.
It might be worth it for December.
We couldn't get home last December because there was a blizzard back home and all the flights were canceled for two days.
I think the insurance would have covered some of our expenses for the extra day we had to stay.

we have 1 reservation made for July but we used out point from both contracts. anyone know how that would work re the insurance, thinking it might be a good option to take for us as we are coming from the UK and with weather and Ash cloud these days would be a good back-up

Are you sure it's not calendar year? I was almost certain it was, and now I'm questioning it. I just purchased it for our Oct. trip, which is in our next use year.

This is from the Description of Coverage:

PLAN COST AND TERM OF COVERAGE
"1. The Annual Timeshare Protection Plan for Disney
Vacation Club members must be paid for no later than
30 days before Your Timeshare Trip, or the booking
date confirmation of Your first Timeshare Trip,
whichever is later. The Protection Plan ends 365 days
after the inception of Your Plan, but will only apply to
Maintenance Charges You may incur.
2. Timeshare Cancellation/Interruption benefit is only
afforded for Timeshare Trips that occur in the calendar
year to which Your Maintenance Charges or dues value
of Points are applied, once payment is received by the
Plan Administrator, and subject to the terms and
conditions outlined in this Description of Coverage.
During the first policy year, any Maintenance Charges
or dues value of Points accumulated or deposited from
previous years prior to purchase of the Plan are not
covered."

I guess I will need to call them this week for further clarification. I hope I didn't burn myself by being too proactive.

I am also curious about the NEW Travelex Insurance offered via DVC,

Surprised it is the same price for like 100 points versus 1000 points, or 1 person or like 12 persons on the same reservation, for just ONE price of 79 dollars per usage year.

Using the DVC member site, previewing the Insurance Quote, with using the State of Connecticut as a residency it showed these basic coverages:

Also you can view in the Insurance Vendor site a CERTIFICATE which does seem to mention multiple trips, and multiple companion members, but it doesn't state it clearly, more like in definitions.

The CM on the phone did say it covered everyone on the DVC Reservation.

----------------------------------------------

Okay, it doesn't seem terrible for just some simple basic insurance for say medical or medical evacuation problems in the Caribbean or BAHAMAS. I'm not sure if the coverages are sufficient for travel to Europe.

---------------------------------------------------

Curious what you think about the plan, if you don't like it what do you like better instead, and how much does your preferred plan cover better and the cost per person.

Personally I want to be covered for medical care and medical evacuation when out of the USA, the rest is like "gravy" to me, I can afford to lose the vacation value if it happens someday. (So far not a problem)

The policy clearly states my termination date of coverage, which is 365 days from the purchase date. This should cover both our late January trip and October trip, even though they are in different use years.

is it per contract of member :confused3 we have booked using the points from both our 2 contract so would I therefore have to take out the insurance twice.

From everything I have read it is per UY used, but you can use the insurance for each trip that uses the same UY of points over 1 entire year (not calendar year) for 1 fee. So if I had 1000 points (:cloud9:) at ResortX for a 2011 Feb UY I could go for a week in Feb 2011, July 2011, and January 2012 and pay $79 to cover all of those trips.
If I used 2010 and 2011 from 1 resort I would pay $158 to cover my year of trips.

Your trip might taking place in 2 different UY, but were the 2 trips booked using 1 UY of points?

Another member on a thread said that when she asked MS about the insurance for her trips that used 2 different resorts with the same UY she was told it would still just be the $79. Which is better than I thought, I was under the impression that combining points from 2 different resorts would double the cost, but apparently it does not if points from both resorts are under the same UY.

Before buying this insurance, be sure you understand what you will get if you need it. Insurance will not replace the points into your account. They will pay you an amount based on the number of points your reservation would take. In the past this was something like $5/point. Don't know what the current value is. But consider if this is adequate compensation sound something go wrong.

I called to add the dining plan to one of my reservations and was told for the 3rd time that it is per UY.
It is the year you are traveling, though, not the year the points came from.
My UY is Dec. so I would need to purchase it twice for trips in July and next December.

Hi,

I think MS gave wrong info again. I emailed Travelex for clarification, and here is my response. Apparently, it IS per UY of the points you are using, not the period in which you travel (other than a 24 month rule). By the way, I have to have my policy modified due to incorrect effective dates, which should have started on the first day of my UY (10/1/11) and buy a 2nd policy for my 2012 points. I hope MS can get good info out to us soon.

Thank you for choosing a Travelex Insurance plan through Disney Vacation Club. Our Timeshare Travel Protection Plan covers the Use Year for which you elect coverage, and would protect the Timeshare Trips you take using that Use Year’s points. Therefore, your current policy should reflect the dates of the Use Year for which you are choosing coverage. If it does not reflect the correct Use Year dates, please call our Customer Service department at 1-877-886-4664, M-F, 8-5PM CST to amend your current policy, DVCT002XX.

If you have booked a trip with banked or borrowed points from Use Years other than 2011, you would also need to purchase a plan for those Use Years to secure complete coverage of your trip.

To insure additional Use Years, please contact Disney Vacation Club at 1-800-******** (M-F, 9-5:30 EST) or purchase additional plans online at www.dvcmember.com. The “start date” would need to be the first day of your Use Year month. For example, if you have a March Use Year, to purchase coverage of banked points for your 2010 Use Year, the Start Date should be entered as 03/01/2010. You must travel within 24 months of plan purchase, if using banked points.

Once coverage is elected, the Member and their Traveling Companions are covered for all benefits, up to fifteen people total, provided the maximum occupancy of the unit(s) is(are) not exceeded. Associates can be covered when not traveling with the Primary Member if they are a spouse.

Please review the attached Description of Coverage provided for the plan you have purchased and feel free to call our Customer Service department at 1-877-886-4664, M-F, 8-5PM CST, if you have any further coverage questions.

Please note: All terms, conditions, exclusions and provisions of the plan apply. All benefits will be determined at the time a claim may occur based on the information and documentation submitted.

I hope this helps someone.

I have banked my August 2010 points for my next trip which occurs after August 2011, and used those banked points for a trip in the August 2011th year.

I did get the Travelex plan today, and it is by USAGE year where the points originated from. Today I got both the 2010 Usage year, and the 2011 Usage year, it created TWO transactions, and two charges for 79 dollars EACH usage year, for a total of 158 dollars. Again, I had to get the 2010 usage year, as this where the points for my 2011 year were BANKED from.

If I decide to continue the protection, I will call again on August 2012 to add my new usage year, or when I first make a reservation for that Usage Year's points.

It does cover everyone on the reservation.

This information came from Member Services.

Just to chime in here. I spoke to MS today she was very sure it was per UP. Not calender year.

Does anyone know how much you get reimbursed per DVC point if you have to cancel for a valid reason? I read the pdf information on the DVC website but I couldn't find a dollar value per point. TIA.
