DVC transferred points & charitable donation

Hi!
I'm new to this board, but I have a couple of questions that I thought all of you experienced DVCers could help me with...

1. We are taking my extended family to WDW & we need to rent/transfer points from other DVC members to book all of our lodging (there will be 27 of us in the party). I understand the definition of "use year", but how does "use year" come into play when working with transferred points? Do the transferred points keep their own use year & home resort?

2. Last year, to raise money for my children's school, I donated a week at OKW for the school's auction. The person running the auction told us we could write the value of the week off on our taxes. When we did our taxes, we found that was not the case. Is anyone familiar with the tax laws for a situation like this?

Transferred points keep their original use year. Be careful when having them transferred though. Disney's tracking system is good at keeping track of use year but not good at keeping track of the home resort. I had BCV points transferred into what I thought was my BCV contract last year. Instead they were put under my VWL contract and they lost their identity until I talked to someone in management who was able to change them back to their original resort. If you have only one contract, this shouldn't pose a problem though.

I don't have an answer to your second question, but I'm sure soemone will.
