DVC Too Good To Be True?

:smickey:
So sorry!!! I feel so bad for you!!! Do you know what happens if you deed it back to Disney? Maybe someone would take it off your hands and let you buy points from them? Good luck and I am so sorry!!!

I thought my ex was paying the loan and dues as he supposedly said he was gonna do. So when I found out that he wasn't, it was pretty much too late. They entered it into foreclosure unless I can come up with roughly $6,000 within the next two weeks. Which is impossible because I am just now getting started again and barely surviving as it is as a single mother. I was so furious when I found out! I always said the same thing as everyone else, that you would have pry it out of my cold, dead hands but because of his foolishness this is my only option. Unless someone is feeling generous and wants to donate the $6K to me! hahaha! I was told by the DVC attorney that by us deeding it back to DVC it would clear out the foreclosure and we will not receive any compensation for it. We are basically just walking away from it legally. So upsetting but I am not giving up hope that someday I can re-establish myself again and re-purchase once I am back on my feet. Nothing is going to keep me from my love of Disney!!! :smickey:

Even if this "too good to be true" deal is true...... a title search should be conducted.

Would Disney stop the transaction?, say, if there was an outstanding lien or dues due ?? ..... Or , because it is a private transaction, the buyer wouldn't know about this until after closing??

Something is missing from this scenario. I vote for:

- either it is a non DVC, local timeshare with near zero market value
-person was offering a free DVC reservation from points they couldn't use, not the entire contract.
-friend was lying about the whole thing. ;)

I would agree with checking to see if it is actually a DVC contract and resort.. a lot of people call their Orlando timeshares Disney timeshares... some of them like Westgate you can't even give away!

We received enough points in Wyndham for 2 bedrooms for 2 weeks for free from TUG forum at one of their lowest MF resorts.. we only paid for the resort transfer fee... :cheer2: It is a nice system and we will probably be using it for our non-Disney trips..

There is the slim possibility that this is indeed one of those "kindness from strangers" scenarios - someone with a smallish contract that really doesn't want the bother of selling, doesn't really need the money selling would bring, and is happy to pass it along to another Disney lover. The weird and wonderful thing about life is that there are millions of unique circumstances out there - including probably someone sitting on points who doesn't need either the points or the money, and doesn't have anyone who would appreciate DVC close to them.

Finding another one of these individuals to give a stranger a contract would be like standing in a field hoping to get hit by lightening. Its probably better to start saving for a resale......

A 4th possibility is there is a loan on it.
If someone bought say SSR in 2007-2008, they might own more than it is worth. (And cannot sell it.)

I hope it works out :wizard:

Well there is good news and bad news. The good news is this person was trying to do something out of the goodness of their hearts. No loan, no monies owed and truly on the up and up. The bad news it is not DVC it is one of the Orlando timeshares :( Thanks for all of your help and advice!!! I am still going to go to bed every night and pray there is someone out there that loves Disney, the childlike feeling you get when you are there and the joy of watching others enjoy it as much as you and wants to donate their DVC to me : ) THANKS AGAIN!!!

my vote is that this is a Westgate timeshare or it is a DVC SSR with negative equity

When the 2042 resorts are near the end of their term, you might very well find people willing, in fact anxious, to give them away to get out from under the huge annual dues that we'll be paying at that time. Many of us are going to be elderly in the last years of our contract, have no kids to pass it on to, and will be looking to avoid paying very high dues while living on a fixed income. Start looking in 2032 or so. :rotfl2:

I will be in this group!

Depending on the week and resort, it still may be worth the effort.

my vote is that this is a Westgate timeshare

My vote is Westgate as well.

If it was DVC, Marriott, Hilton or Starwood (Vistana) then I would say go for it.

If it is any other timeshare in Orlando I would do my due diligence before pursuing even a free ownership.

While officially that's true, I doubt DVC would hold up the gift. Just call them and ask their thoughts (Member Admin).

i disagree. if they allowed this once how could they tell someone who is doijg this for a good reason and someone trying to game the rofr system.

if they dl this for one they have to do it for everyone who asks.
