We are arriving this Sunday to WDW, but are staying at AKL instead of BWV. We usually purchase park passes while checking in. Also have always been able to drop first or last day (several times both) while doing so. Does this DVC discount on passes still apply?

No discount and you will likely not be able to drop days as the written rules say otherwise.

So, I am giving up the spaciousness of a 1BR and losing the ticket discount as well? I should have added that we are going to AKL using our points, will that make a difference?

Does everyone have to buy a pass? Meaning, my son and I will buy passes, My wife and daughter are not interested in doing the parks, or at least not for the whole stay. Dropping one (or both) of the days was helpful in that regard.

You will not get the 10% discount if it is not a DVC resort.

You CAN drop the first and/or last day off of the ticket. That is not a DVC exclusive perk. Anyone can do that... that is to accomodate for late night and early morning flights.

No, not everyone has to buy a pass and not everyone has to have the same pass, they can cater passes to each individual person at the front desk (if you buy in advance they all have to be the same)

Here's a description of the perk from the member website:

Walt Disney World® Theme Parks Admission Discount
Receive a 10% discount on the Ultimate Park Hopper Ticket and enjoy unlimited admission (except for activities/events that are separately priced) to the Magic Kingdom® Park, Epcot®, Disney-MGM Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, Downtown Disney® Pleasure Island, DisneyQuest® Indoor Interactive Theme Park and Disney's Wide World of Sports® Complex (valid only on event days, some events require separate admission). This ticket is valid from the moment you check-in until midnight the day you check-out. Offer available only to Members staying at a Disney Vacation Club Resort.

That is correct you will not get the 10% discount unless you are staying at a DVC resort. The computer systems at the regular WDW hotels do not have that discount avalaible.

However as Libertybelle mentioned, Dropping the first and/or last day is not a DVC perk. That is avalaible to any guest at any hotel anytime... it is to accomodate for travel plans.

Keep in mind that if you want to drop days, you must pay the gate price and purchase your UPH at check in - this isn't usually an issue for DVC members staying at a DVC Resort, since we get a 10% discount on UPH passes.

For those not staying at a DVC resort, you cannot drop days if you purchase in advance. So again - you need to do the math. Is it better to buy in advance and get the advnace purchase discount, or is it better to pay gate price and buy at check in so you can drop arrival and/or departure day.

Best wishes -

Thanks for the responses, guess we can live with the extra 10%, and always wanted to stay at AKL. Glad we can customize the tickets. Only a few days now!

To expound, actually it's not a perk at all, DVC or otherwise. It is handled individually by each CM though I'm sure they get some GENERAL directions from above. However the rules say including the day of check in and checkout and I get the impression that DVC CM are more likely to allow the flexibility than non DVC CM.

Having worked Beach Club...pre-DVC, Wilderness Lodge...Pre and Post DVC and OKW currently... I can assure you dropping the first and/or last day from the UPH ticket is not a perk and it is not CM discretion... You are able to drop the first and/or last night off regardless of what Disney hotel you stay at or what CM you talk to. It is set up that way so that if you are arriving late you can drop the first day, if you are departing early, you can drop the last day and if you are arriving late and departing early you can drop the first and last day. It's not a perk of any kind, it is just the way the ticket is set up... As I stated you can only do this if you purchase the tickets at the front desk, if you book them in advance they are for the entire length of your stay as the reservations center has no way of changing them around. :)

The written rules for DVC say otherwise and the ones for other guests have in the past. Taken from the Member Benefits guidebook
...during the entire length of stay....Entire length of stay includes both the day of arrival and the day of departure...
This is the wording from the 01/01/01 version, the current version says the same basic thing but is less specific. Glad to hear it's becoming more and more an option.

Been resort front desk since 2000 and as Libertybelle has stated the UPH CAN be modified to drop the first and/or last day. I understand where you are coming from, reading the "written rules" but as a Front Desk CM, the flexibility is there to modify the ticket if you choose to. It is avalaible to any guest at any hotel. Any CM can accomodate that you just need to tell them how you want the ticket set up.
