Anyone willing to pay $68.60 plus tax and tip for this year's meal for an adult? Comes out to about $86.00 for an adult. A child is $30 plus tax and tip.

From what I read, last year's dinner was not that great. Or it might have been a Christmas dinner.

At first I was thinking about it cause everywhere else is booked . but dam add that up for 8 and its way to much . We all have the meal plan so we are just going to eat on the fly for turkey day .

Since that's about the same prices as Kroger's Deluxe Turkey Dinner for 6 was last year, I think I would pass, and have our own celebration in the villa - plus this means turkey sandwiches ;)

Deluxe Turkey Thanksgiving Dinner, serves 6, $69.99. Includes:
  • Choose either Cajun Fried Turkey (9-11 lb) or Smoked Turkey (10-12 lb) or Oven Roasted Turkey (10-13 lb)
  • Mashed Potatoes, 24 oz
  • Stuffing, 32 oz
  • Green Bean Casserole, 32 oz
  • Gravy, 24 oz
  • Cranberry Celebration, two 16 oz containers
  • Pumpkin Pie, 10-inch
  • Dinner Rolls, 12

If I was at Disney on days like Thanksgiving, Easter or Christmas that would be one day i'd use my DVC kitchen and cook in. Restaurant quality in general dips dramatically those days.

We got take out from Boston Market last year. It was actually pretty good. I think a meal for 4 was $30. Besides I cooked a full thanksgiving meal for my family the weekend before we left. So we really got to celebrate twice.

Are we all talking about the same thing here?

Last year, there was a meal served for DVC members I believe at the Contemporary. I think that's what the OP was about. From what I recall reading here, it was a miserable failure. I don't even remember one positive comment. I haven't even heard for sure that this is being offered this year. There may be a reason for that. ;)

As far as having a meal delivered to your room (by Disney Dining) as mentioned above, I didn't even know that was an option, but I don't think that's what the OP was about. I could be wrong.

I recently received the email about this years DVC Thanksgiving meal event. So yes it is being offered this year. After everything I heard about last years meal I have no plan to attend. We will be at the Polynesian and will be having Thanksgiving dinner at G.F Café.

If you decide to order a meal from Publix or Winn Dixie, you will probably need to pick it up no later than the day before. They will probably be closed on the holiday.

We ordered a dinner for Christmas Day from Goodings many, many years ago (back when Goodings was still good) and had to give them a time when we would pick it up the day before. The turkey was precooked, but it was frozen, so it took a long time to thaw it out to reheat.

Make sure you can pick your prepared dinner up no later than the day before the holiday if you decide to buy a dinner from Publix or Winn Dixie.

We did the Publix holiday dinner when we were staying at Kidani for Thanksgiving week 2013. I think it was around $50 total, but literally came with everything from the turkey, to the veggies, to rolls, and we picked up an extra dessert for an additional choice. There were 4 of us (DH, two kiddos, me) and we had leftovers for a couple days, too. Honestly, it was the best turkey as far as taste and moisture we'd ever eaten. If we are ever doing a DVC stay over a holiday again (maybe HHI next year for Thanksgiving), we wouldn't hesitate to purchase the holiday meal again. It was way cheaper than the reservations for 4 we originally had at the Turf Club at SSR.

And what ticks me off is that considering all the negative reviews (and I'm quite sure they got negative reviews from members), there's not one comment in there like "We listened to you-improved!" or "New and improved", absolutely nothing to suggest that it's anything different from the same old lousy offering that it was last year. I really wonder how many, if any members, will sign up.

These events apparently are another revenue stream for Disney. They won't say improved because that implies that there was something wrong last year and Disney doesn't make mistakes.

Most members don't read reviews so they don't know anything about the event and because it's Disney putting it on and because it's exclusive to DVC, they will probably sell out.

:earsboy: Bill

That's exactly right, Bill. It won't sell out from here, but as often we do, we forget we are but a microcosm of the DVC system.

"We're going at Thanksgiving and Disney's serving dinner." is what most members unfamiliar with this forum will say. It's low hanging fruit and Disney picks every bite they can get... and they'll get a lot.

I'll never be able to prove it because we always arrive around the 28 (we always drive down on Friday or Saturday after) and won't be there for the event. I wouldn't go if we were there based on what I've read here, but I'd bet you an inordinate amount of money that it will be essentially EXACTLY like last year. I wish there was a way for me to prove it but I won't be able to unfortunately.

With the credit-card hold policy in place, there will be many cancellations in the few days leading up to Thanksgiving. If you check periodically, you'll find something that works. We snagged a last-minute ADR at Cape May for Christmas dinner last year, and there were plenty of other options.

Also, don't forget that some Disney Springs/DTD restaurants and many in the nearby non-Disney hotels are on Open Table. I've booked Boathouse via Open Table before when Disney's system was sold out.

I too have enjoyed the Holiday meal from Publix -- more than once. But I personalized it with my own stuffing (theirs was cornbread based, and we like sausage stuffing), and our own sweet potato recipe. And Publix desserts are amazing. Check the catering menu on line to order.

If you have a vehicle, Cracker Barrel is open on Thanksgiving and does a nice meal. I've been twice in two different cities. Great price, no clean-up, and still has a homey feel.
