DVC Talk at Work

I work in a rural school with about 30 full time faculty members and now 3 of us are DVC owners. We joined in 2001, one teacher joined last fall and another joined this summer. I think 10% of all employees is a pretty good percentage of members. Anyway, today the three of us were talking and one said that she and her sister(also a teacher) both bought this summer and that every Sunday they have dinner at her parent's house and spend the afternoon discussing points and possible usage of the points and planning future trips. I thought that was just a DIS thing to do - little did I know that it must be something that ALL DVCers do. Now if we had only planned ahead and had three different home resorts - then we could have traded around to always have a home resort advantage. I guess we'll have to work on the other 27 staff members and encourage buying some resales to get points at all resorts!

Darn, and I thought we were doing well with three in our 60 person department (5%)! 10% is great! I was first with BWV, then another colleague bought SSR and finally another got OKW resale. Of course now I added some SSR points too, and we know some former colleagues own at VWL... Looks like we're missing BCV tho (also HHI and VB). It is fun to compare notes in the office tho.

You guys are so lucky. I got so excited the other day because a co-worker actually knew what the Wilderness Lodge was and ate breakfast there! That is as close as I have come. Most have never even been to WDW (if you can believe that!)

The people I work with think I'm nuts for going to WDW so often, they just don't get it. On the other hand, my in-laws are members but they are pretty clueless. They bought in 1994 and still have no idea how many points that have for any given year, have no desire to plan in advance, etc. I don't quite understand that either!

I work with 2 people who have family members that are DVC'ers and my friend/neighbor who lives in the house right behind me is a DVC'er.

We always talk Disney! I love it someone who shares my obsession.

I work in a fairly large company (over 2,000 employees in the office I work at) and it seems about once a week I run by an office or cube that has just too much Disney decor. So I just have to stop and strike up a conversation. On many occasions I have met fellow DVC members and it a great feeling to share an obsession with a fellow associate.

I dont have any fellow DVC owners at work but I do work with a couple people that did Disneys college program. One of them wants to join DVC he just doesnt have the funds yet,but he said he will join in time as he loves Disney and we talk about it all the time.
Now that I am thinking about coworkers and Disney does anybody work with a guy like this? I have a coworker that went to Disney last year. For six months before his trip it was all he talked about with me and how he couldnt wait and I gave him a couple restaurant recommendations and stuff like that. He came back saying how great it was and he loved it. Just ranting and raving about what a good time he had. Now for some reason its like he hates it. He shakes his head when I say I am going to Disney again and asked why I dont go somewhere else and how hes going to Jamaica or Mexico on his next trip. If the other coworker I mentioned earlier and I are talking Disney he will walk by and say something sarcastic like "Let me guess,talking about Disney again" and will roll his eyes or something. We dont let it bother us as nothing like that is going to make us stop going to Disney because we love it so much. We just laugh at him and I will bring up Disney in front of him just to get him going,but I cant help but wonder what made him take a complete turn on Disney like that. Oh well,one less person in line in front of me.

I work at a fairly large company. I wear the DVC hat and not one person I know has any idea what DVC is. I did have one person ask me how "our property" at Old Key West(the one at the tip of Florida) faired when one of the hurricanes past thru a couple of weeks ago and thats it. I tried to explain to him how it works and he was not interested at all, oh well...smjj

I'm not a DVC owner but certainly wish I could be (thinking one day maybe could afford small resale contract) but I have worked with a few people who own and I have also rented points. I don't understand people like Southtown was referring to. I also work with a coworker whom I now think is completely nuts. There are several of us here who love to do to Disney and US and try to go every year or every 2 to 3 whenever we can afford it. The one coworker who is completely nuts gets on these rants about how Disney is for children and that she does intend to take her grandson there once for is experience but she won't enjoy it. She's the type that if she does enjoy it she will still come back and completely bash it. None of us like her but we have to deal with her.

You know I also don't understand why people make a big deal out of "oh your going back to Disney again". There are millions of people who own timeshares or empty lots in other states and those people head to their timeshare every year (in the same place) or park a camper on their empty lot every couple of weeks. So what if the rest of us want to be at Disney whenever we can, what is the big freaking deal?

everytime people ask me where I'm going and I said Disney... they look at me as if I grew some worts and fangs or something...
and " oh i can't believe you're doing that again... it's expensive..." blah blah blah
and then they proceeded tell me about their golf obsession and how much $ they spent on their new driver...
sheesh...
if only they knew...
going to WDW is a requirement for me to stay sane... hehehe...

gracelrm, I teach in a smaller school than you. We have 14 faculty, a principal, and secratary, and that's it. I have found a way to feed my own Disney frenzy at school. Being the Athletic Director at school I do come up with ways to help team spirit, and this year we are taking the softball team to Disney for spring training. Now I have 16 young ladies (all girl high school) to talk disney with. I have even come up with projects for them to do as part of their grades to plan out the trip. I also got the secratary interested in DVC. I just ordered her an infomation package from my guide.

How about this. My entire immediate family are now DVC members. Now every time I talk to mom or dad, or my sister DVC, and planning always comes up. DVC is such a wonderful way to bring a close family even closer.

We can't wait till next family trip. Only this time they have their own points.

I also have one co worker thats a DVCER and he also doesnt seem to care about points or planning ahead just goes every other year ,no excitment or anything , thinks im crazy for talking about it all the time.
