Is there a widely accepted top 5 definition?

Top 4 seems obvious: BCV, BWV, PVB, VGF

The 5th seems like it could be CCV/BRV/BLT/RIV (though I personally would put AKV ahead of some of them, not sure most people would consider it hard to get).

I don’t know because I think the near park resorts tend to be more popular than the others.

But I think top 5 would be different for everyone but with the 8 you mention falling in most.

I did rank RIV, VGF, BLT, PVB tower, and BCV in my top 5 now.

I posted about this once but I was placed under scrutiny when I was looking to add on at VGF and was told it started because of the # of points I own. It isn't even close to what the limit is. And rentals? Prior to covid - the odd rental or two but not even every year. Rented all points during Covid when we couldn't travel. It's been one or two a year rentals since then with the majority being used by me. My guide sounded a bit frustrated and perplexed by it stating he had lots of owners who rented out points.....because it's allowed. It took a ridiculous amount of time for them to decide and several phone calls from me to get it done. I think eventually it was that I kept calling and they just gave up.

I have little faith in how DVC is going to decide whom to review.

Thanks for sharing. Would you mind sharing how many points you had at the time?

And, did they cancel any reservations? Or they didn’t want to allow you to add more points?

Those members are not a great candidate to own DVC. That's just the fact. First come First served is spelled out in the POS. Without a guaranteed week no owner is guaranteed any type of room nor to even be able to book on the day they want.
And that’s what most don’t either understand or unwilling to accept.

I have the sense for some owners it’s me me me me because I’m entitled to. No you are entitled to A room at your home resort. You aren’t entitled to a specific room but A room.

With first come first serve, it’s all owners for themselves. Which frankly is how it should be.

It personally how you rate them.

I’d rate them as BWV, BCV, VGF and AKV

BWV and BCV are sharing a 1st place.

To me PVB is dead last. Hands down I haven’t tried PIT(a) and maybe it can change my mind. Maybe I should try a duo studio next time I visits. Ooops that’s tomorrow - then next next time :-)

I consider 3 tiers VGF,BLT,Poly,BC,BW - walk resorts

Then CCV,BRV,RIV,CFW some other than bus transportation

Then - AK,SSR,OKW - bus only

This is…funny coming from this…

Can anyone really blame owners if they try to maximize their income for the points they need to rent?

If I could rent a value or BWV SV reservation during December then I would do it. Why shouldn’t I?

I’d rather spec rent instead of hoping to rent something on demand.

People continue to just make the greater case for renting and never owning DVC. You’re not entitled to any room as an owner but a renter easily has the pick of the lot, makes sense to me.

Renters don’t have to pick of any lot, they’re stuck with what’s offered frequently at obscene prices. And by the way, there’s nothing stopping an owner from renting if you really have to have that room.

It’s a simple truth you’re not entitled to any specific view on a specific day booking at 11 months. And the real truth is, you can still get a studio at 11 months in every resort.

Sure. But FCFS was based on an honor system before the likes of bots and commercial renters profiteering off of specific rooms/dates/resorts. And when people are offering to walk specific stays for you more than 11mos out, like that previous poster mentioned before, then you kind of do have the pick of the lot. Those obscene prices you mention, sell. And they’re still better than Disney rack rates. If I have to upgrade to a 1bdrm every time I get blocked from a studio, then that cost adds up, too, making the advantage of owning DVC vs simply renting even smaller.

But I’m not here to convince you of anything. I think you’ve more than made your stance clear on this. You’ve obviously had a stellar record with your bookings. That’s good to hear some people continue to get lucky. My experience so far has had both hits and misses. I was locked out of the rooms I wanted for 2 trips this year. I made it work mostly (cancelled one trip and luckily had enough to borrow more than I wanted to change rooms for the second trip). And I wouldn’t have been particularly frustrated if I didn’t see those rooms available on the rental sites not long after the opening window. And not just one room. There were a few of the same category over the course of the dates I needed. And that was just one 1 of the rental sites I looked at; I’m not even on the FB pages, I’m sure there’s even more options there.

Anyway, can’t wait to see all the July 4th, 2026 reservations at BCV/BWV/Poly to show up on the rental sites the first week of August. But of course, I’m sure all those people just had a change of plans 10mos and 3 weeks out and had no had recourse but to sell those rooms.

you are entitled to a room or you are guaranteed a room. I’d say that’s potato or potatoe :-)

since owners are allowed to rent and as we have talked about, if all owners rented 1 reservation per year that would create more than 200,000 reservations per year that renters could pick and choose from. I know we don’t have 200.000 unique members but even if the number was only 25,000 or 50,000 that’s still a lot of reservations per year heck each month it’s 2,500 - 5,000. So yes renters can pick and chose all within the rules.

If I personally had to rent some points 7/4 was not on my list - I’d wait for Oct - Dec, but most likely for December to potentially maximize my earnings.

I didn’t get lucky and get a standard view at boardwalk for next May, but I had no issue booking a pool view after I was unsuccessful. Boardwalk is one of the hardest to book a studio.

I don’t care and I don’t even look at the rental site to see if someone else is renting a resort view studio that week in May - because I know that there’s way too few of them to get them every year. I have, however, never been blocked out of getting a studio either at poly Riviera or boardwalk as long as I signed on at 8 AM on booking day.

I would probably never book a value or Club level animal Kingdom so I don’t care about those rooms and frankly, I can’t see why people go so crazy over them, Spending a few extra points a night is a drop in the bucket compared to what you spend during the week at Disney I would take the larger studio anyway.

I do agree that one particular renter on Facebook must be using a bot because I’ve seen them get multiple value rooms at a rate that defies probability if they were individually clicking on the button. That is unfair.. but if that could be stopped and everybody who owned points at the resort had an equal chance at 8 AM then I’m fine.

Use your room, rent your room. Heck don’t show up and leave it empty. It doesn’t matter to me. You paid for your points so your business what you do with them.

If anyone is using a bot to book then it seems a bit too much and frankly unfair.

I can maybe click 10-20 times on my mouse within 5 sec and a bot can do it like 1,000 times or more. Don’t even know if it matters if I click 10-20 times at 8am :-)
