DVC solution??

Personally, I think the most logical and equitable solution is to give discounts for the Disney collection hotel bookings.
Resale members can’t use points for Disney Collection. So unless DVC makes an exception, that’s not equitable. Yes, someone is making a choice by buying points resale, but someone is also making a choice with your argument that people would lose otu points by selling that contract.

I’m glad I’m not the one in DVC management who has to make this decision.

oh yeah -- I completely forgot about that. Good point.

I wonder they could waive restrictions as a one-off?

I think if they can strike a deal with Disney to allow more use of the Disney collection, without sending a DVC villa to pay for it, then they probably need to do something with using points owned by them vs, the owners actual points,

I don’t see them lowering the points charts though. They'd probably want to have those extra points used up as fast as possible.

Yes and that means that Disney is helping DVC.
Well, yes and no. Remember, this offer was designed primarily for the people that booked on cash and had their reservations cancelled. For which they received full refunds, so even if they didn't take advantage of it, they we're out a penny. With DVC, those lost points were paid for bothin purchase and dues, so they are out money. I feel bad for them, but I don;t know what can actually be done to make them whole given the restrictions of being a timeshare and operating under those rules and laws. Once they get a firm re-opening date, and they see how much it may or may not throw the DVC System out of whack, they can probably come up with a different plan.

What about some type of credit towards next years dues?
Since dues pay expenses for each resort based on a per point basis, I doubt they can legally pick which members do or don't get the dues credit. I imagine all members will see some dues credit for maintenance. housekeeping, transportation and so forth.

My old timeshare, that I just sold the last flex week a few months ago, did that when Irma hit Marco Island. If your stay was cancelled because of hurricane repairs (and not being allowed on the island) they credited the fees you paid for that year for that week.

What if DVC added one year extension to everyone's deed. Would that solve the problem with people losing the use of their 2019 points??
Curious what others think?
I think the best solution is to allow any points for 2019 2020 2021 that could be impacted by the covid 19 pandemic be allowed to be bankable for the eternity of our contracts but only be allowed to be used at resorts and not at dvc villas. A fair points value could be assigned at value moderate and deluxe resorts and those rooms could be available for use on a points basis by dvc members . Disney certainly has the inventory available at their resorts and this idea would allow disney to take care of their dvc family . Disney should protect their members and preserve the value of our dvc investment and not expect members to lose points at all. This is a fair solution for everyone. These points could be put into a newly created dvc circumstantial holding account and creation of such an account would help in the future for any trips cancelled for unforeseeable events in the future. Your idea of adding years onto a membership would not help members who are older in age but is an option

I think I saw this suggested by someone else around here, but what about the option of taking lost points and spreading them over a 5-10 year span. So if you were going to lose 100 points, you would get 20 OTU points for 5 years. There would be no banking or borrowing of these points. You use them during the UY or lose them. This would still add points to the system that otherwise wouldn't be there, but at least it would spread them out a little.
That's the best idea I've seen so far, not sure it can be done be nice if it could.

The only solution I can see that makes any sense is, if the cash resorts end up being underbooked to the extent that they have to close parts of those resorts (has been done before), those are offered to DVC. As Sandisw has said, that's a complex issue, but IMHO, feasible.

Why not they are doing it the other way round

None of these things would be legally allowed. Right now, the solutions they came up with are the best ones given all that is part of the timeshare rules and laws. Winners and losers both short and long term, but IMO, it was more than fair, and certainly more than they needed to do legally.

The reason that Disney did not step in and change the program with DVC is because they don’t have an obligation to...not to mention there are rules in place that DVCM could do which they did in terms of the 50% borrowing rule,

I know people thought Disney would give DVC the rooms, without us giving a villa, because it is better than empty.

As you know, they are giving those at closed resorts those rooms to Cash because they are the most important guests to WDPR and doing what they are doing is keeping people coming.

I wouldn't think Disney would do this as they are kicking themselves now for setting the points for the Epcot resorts so low. They can't wait to get their hands back on those properties.

I agree in the short term (i.e. no changing rules until they know what they're dealing with). The problem is that they've already made changes. Unfortunately, DVCM can change the rules and still be following the agreement that we signed.
And those changes while helping some members out have negatively impacted others.

How about Disney buying all the points that are currently up for sale in the secondary market today. They could resell them after the point glut is over. It will not solve the problem but is a step in the right direction. I just took a look at the timeshare store and I guess there are 10,000+ points for sale in this one place.

Disney is borrowing to maintain operations. They will not be using their precious cash to buy back points.

IMO, they have done what they can (and intend ) to do. We should not expect them or anyone else to make us whole.

Banks are lining up to throw money at Disney. 10,000,000 streaming service members @ $10 a month to show content already in the can is a good start on a cash flow.
