DVC rooms too plain?

OP, I think you have unrealistic expectations of DVC. I love a plush hotel room as much as the next person (probably more, but regardless...) but as I've traveled a lot for both work and leisure, my ideas about what the word "luxury" encompasses. Yes, high quality sheets, well-appointed bathrooms, top-shelf amenities, steam showers, great views, convenient or important location, etc etc are luxurious. But you know what else is luxurious? Being able to sleep in a little and have fruit and yogurt for breakfast while we get ready and still make rope drop. Being able to soak in a whirlpool and while watching fireworks...or just listening to the EWP music through the open balcony door. I could go on, but I think you get the point. When I go to Paris, I want my view of the Eiffel Tower and to-die-for comfortable, big room at the Hotel Lutetia. When I go to London I want my super-posh room at the Dorchester on Park Lane. And when I go to Disney, I want to stay onsite - that's the real luxury related to WDW IMO - and I want to do it in a way that is comfortable and helps me continue to enjoy WDW in new ways.

That said, I still remember when Disney had a key system for ranking resorts - deluxe resorts were 5 keys and DVC resorts were 4 keys (I think it was just OKW and BWV then). They were never meant to be equal to deluxe- but in my mind, the ones connected to a hotel are close enough and the things in a villa (whirlpool, kitchen, laundry, private bedroom) actually plus the hotel experience when at Disney.

And I'm one of those people who doesn't want a housekeeper moving my stuff around, so I usually put the do not disturb out when I arrive and keep it there in a hotel anyway.

Now, for the part that I REALLY agree with:

but the decor in most of them remind me of staying at my grandmothers house.

OMGosh, yes. The new decor at BWV is a little better, but that's how I've felt about BCV, VWL, and SSR - and I haven't stayed at OKW but it looks the same. AKV was different but still not my taste (pattern overkill, dark, heavy furniture). BLT is the only DVC that do NOT feel this way about! And I feel the same way about most of the other resorts except the ones with recent refurbs (BWI, BC/YC, CR). The upgraded duvet/linens really makes a difference - I hate those icky polyester bedspreads.

I have to say that i will take my DVC room over a hotel room every time. It has been said, but I am one who wants my WDW vacation to feel like home. It is our vacation home after all.

We love the AKV theming, the BWV feeling, and the warm homey mood at OKW. They are our favorites, and i will take them over all of the deluxes with down comforters and 10000 count thread sheets. We love our DVC.

If Grandmother's house looked like OKW I might go more often, just kidding!
I get what you're saying, I love a duvet and a deluxe hotel room just like the next person but when I go to Disney that's not my life.

I bought DVC for the kitchen, the laundry room, a big enough space for all of us to hang out so we could do our own thing, but also do it together. Just as we rent cabins in Georgia and Tennessee in the summer, it's so we can all be together, deluxe hotel rooms don't afford us that togetherness.

A deluxe hotel room I save for my honey and me (no kids, no laundry!). Just him, me and the duvet!

If you didn't want to feel at "home" when your away on Disney vacations, then why did you buy into DVC? I think the DVC rooms are just fine at every location myself. ;)[/QUOTE

I bought into DVC because like most members my family travels to WDW often and it was the best deal for us. I'm not wanting to start a disagreement by my thread. I'm just pointing out that the deluxe resort hotels room are much nicer than the DVC Villas as far as decor.

You're probably right but I'm not sure they ever promised deluxe accomodations...just home away form home accomodations.

...cleaning the bathroom including the toilet is just something I want done everyday. It's just a pet peeve of mine.

Do you really think any hotel does this level of cleaning everyday? Hardly, they may quickly spray the tub area with a cleaner and then just make sure everything is tidy, but they're not scrubbing down the tiolet, etc. everyday, even in a cash based room.

I haven't read the whole thread.

I'm not asking for the Ritz or the Waldorf...but wish the bedding was more on par with a Hampton Inn or Fairfield...and not on par with an old Best Western.

I'm paying the equivalent of $75/night for a studio and getting bedding like a hotel that charges $75/night. (Hmm...)

pretty happy with DVC.

It a timeshares - now the Marriott and Hilton might be a little better - but not much.

really liked their studio - a king bed and queen sleeper sofa. but DVC will not do that. Knew that joining DVC.

for Orlando the maintence fees are not that much more. also don't like anyone in my room when I am not there.

love blt - walking to the MK....

bc - walking to Epcot.

if you really want those things - the new 4 season (going up on bay lake close to FW) - will have a timeshare - sell your DVC and buy there.

;) Just do like DH and me...stay in values until you buy DVC...then really everything at AKV is very deluxe and worthy of worship once a year. Just to make note we did stay at POFQ once as a gift from MIL and I stayed at Swan once on business....I didn't have to pay for those experiences.

All Stars and Pop from 2002-2008. DVC 2009...never looking back...oh did I just say that....we are staying at Pop 11/30 before our AKV stay starting 12/01. While at Pop I will have to look for ice to cool down a drink for DH, sit on a bed to watch TV (no sofa) and will enjoy the same type comforter I will be getting at AKV.

Getting to go to WDW, own DVC and have jobs in this economy---very deluxe indeed. If you are starting out with lower expectations because that has been your only experience, Deluxe rooms and villas are always going to meet and exceed expectations--which is why I am completely happy :thumbsup2
