I'm curious - Do you think the TP Request Tool may be 'useless' when it comes to DVC rooms (booked by an owner, not villas booked on the Disney site by just anyone)? I know one can make a generic'ish request with MS for a room and/or online check-in, but the TP fax tool lets you be more specific regarding location and even specific rooms. I am just wondering if that particular tool even works when it comes to DVC. Perhaps I feel this way since I have never received the DVC room I requested with the TP tool. Do you think the online check-in and/or contacting MS are the only way to request something in advance of arriving at the resort?

There is no reason why it shouldn't. The DVC resorts are run by the same organization. That said, it is possible to make exactly the same request via chat that one makes via the TP tool.

However, I generally do not request specific rooms---getting one of those requires that (a) someone is checking out of one of them that day and (b) of all the people using TP to request that specific room, you're the one they pick.

Instead, I ask for the properties I want in a room. For example, at SSR Standard I usually request "near the paddock pool in an upper floor." At an upcoming RIV stay, just "upper floor" is fine--I don't need to be on any specific arm of the building. At BRV, I ask for "an upper floor, odd-numbered room."

OKW is the place I am most specific: Building 45 or 46.

I think the more flexible I can be with a request, the easier it is for the assignment to be one I'll be happy with.

The odd # rooms face towards Bay Lake. You can't necessarily see it, but I prefer looking in that direction.

(I hope I read the map correctly. Maybe it is the even rooms? Maybe not that. I don't remember for sure. I might instead use a "facing Northeast" in the request. It's been a minute.)

I think it’s “useless” for all room requests, DVC & Non-DVC. I’ve used it for at least a dozen of my last 20 trips and I’ve never had a room that is even close to the room I requested. I keep trying though!

I don’t usually put in a room request other than the generic ones with online check in. We had a mega split stay last month and the only specific request was for a 5th floor room at BRV which I requested through chat and it was granted.

I keep trying. I have had luck with more generic'ish requests, but nothing ever more specific than that.

I have had decent luck with the TP request tool at several DVC resorts (BLT, VGF, Kidani, OKW). I have never had any luck with the tool for BWV or a chat request there either. I feel like any of my requests get purposefully ignored at BWV.

Arriving at the resort as early as possible, and mentioning room request have always seem to work in my favor no matter where I stayed at.

You are correct, it is the odd numbered rooms face the lake. And the lower the number, the closer to the elevators and a better view of the lake.

I’ve used it successfully on the past four hotels I’ve stayed in, two of which were DVC. Didn’t get my exact ask one time but was given similar.

But I always include a bank of rooms or an explanation of the location of the room, not just a specific room.

PSA that the room request menu via online check-in is becoming more exhaustive. I use that and have had great success.

Interesting. With just one exception, we've received a room within one or two room numbers and +/- a floor every time. Our last trip in December, we actually got the EXACT room number we requested at BRV (two-bedroom, corner, lake view).

We've been very lucky our last 4 visits getting our room requests. We always do the TP room request and I'll also follow up by going through member services. 3 of the 4 times member service chat confirmed they had already gotten my request, so I would assume they got it from TP since that's the only way. We just got back on Monday from a week at Boardwalk. Our room wasn't ready until about 5pm and when I followed up at the front desk they told me they were able to meet my request but that room was taking a bit longer. I got the exact room I requested.
