I was thinking of renting DVC points and staying at a villa. I have never done this before and I'm wondering which DVC resort to stay at. The moderate DVC resorts are out. I'm interested in the Deluxe resorts. Any suggestions?
Thanks....

Sorry about that....I meant OKW and SS is out because they're out in no man's land for me.....for some reason I thought they were Moderate resorts....esp with their location.. Thanks for the advice...

OKW is a very nice resort, IMO. We own all pts at Wilderness Lodge, but really like OKW, and dont feel it to far away from parks. Each DVC resort has its plusses. OKW has huge rooms, peaceful. SSR is close to DTD. VWL close to MK, peaceful. BWV and BCV have 2 parks in their back doors, great pools, lots of places to eat. BLT close to MK. AKL has savannah plus close to park.

Try renting through a DIS recommended site(I think Davids rentals), ask lots of questions on the DVC forums. You might even consider becoming an oner after a stay in one, they can spoil you;)

Renting points is a great way to go. We are looking to purchase DVC very soon, so we have rented points to stay at SSR and BWV. We liked both resorts, but for different reasons. As jimmytammy said they each have their merits and drawbacks. For Thanksgiving we are staying at AKV. (Can't wait! :goodvibes)

It would be helpful to know: Which parks are your favorites? What are you looking for in this vacation, down time or being in the center of things? What time of year are you planning on going? Do you have children, if so, what are their ages? If no kids, how many people will be staying in your unit? (Some of the units in the same category vary in size from resort to resort) How much night life do you want? Are pools and resort time & activies important or do you spend most of your time in the parks? All of these factor in to our resort selections.

The mainstream AKL and WL resorts are often called "Deluxe Moderates" or "Modeluxes", mainly because their locations put them slightly lower than the rest of the Deluxes, and are thus offered at slightly cheaper rates than the others.

OKW and SSR are in close proximity to DTD, which is desirable to some (was more desirable when PI existed...). Also, if you have your own car/rent a car, they can be more desirable as well as they are condo style and you park near your building, as opposed to the long walks from the parking lot to the resort (I was NOT happy with the parking arrangements at Boardwalk last trip). They are also not shared with the regular resorts and are spread out, so they at least seem less crowded. They also tend to cost less in points.

It all depends on what you want to do the most...if you want to be able to get to the most parks conveniently, BCV/BWV is convenient to both Epcot and DHS. If MK is your thing, then WLV or BLT.

AKL epitomizes no man's land if you ask me. I think OKW has the most convenient location of any of the DVC resorts.

If you have a car, and if you plan on visiting all of the parks, then yes, OKW is centrally located. But if you rely on Disney transportation, being at a monorail resort is nice (BLT). If you want to spend most or all of your time at MK, then you can't beat BLT for location (likewise for Boardwalk or Beach Club if you'll be primarily at Epcot).

All the resorts are closer thn you think. Take OKW. If you look at a satellite photo you will see it is very close to French Quarter. If you draw a straight line you will find that the west edge of OKW to the east edge of EPCOT are about the same distance as the Swan Dolphin to the west edge of EPCOT is . Pop is right next door to CB and if you are at the fire station by CB at 9 pm you'll see the fireworks are right behind it. Landscaping is such you will never realize it.

I have never heard that term before. Is it your own term to describe the resorts?

I did not coin the term. I know it used to be used a lot by a podcast (not the DIS, WDW Today I think) as something of a joke, because they tended to be cheaper than any of the other deluxe resorts, and lacked the park access the others have (monorail/walk to MK or walk to Epcot/DHS, except WL does at least have a boat launch).
