Hey all, my parents are lending my fiance and myself the points to stay at AKL in June. We weren't supposed to be getting married until 2017, but due to the fact the he is in the military, we may have to get married this April/May so I don't get left behind. The reservation is under my current name, and I will be taking his name when we marry. Not sure what the rules are on changing the name of the main person on the reservation. Anybody else been through this or have any insight?
Thanks!

Your parents can change your name on the reservation with a simple phone call to member services.

Or.

You can check in with your old DL and say nothing.

Either way, won't be a problem.

I recommend checking in with your old DL unless you have enough time to get a new DL completely. Not the yellow paper with the old DL. And also new credit cards that match to pay for stuff.

It is very common for newly married ladies to travel on their old names due to ID requirements and credit card issuance.

Changing names at Disney is not a problem. However, if you are flying you will need to make sure your ID and ticket name match.

And Yep.

Ask your friends locally how long it took to get everything changed over to the new name. (I am of no help as neither DH nor I felt the need to change our names) If you think you can get it done in time for the June reservation, do it, and change the name. Perhaps...change the name AFTER you know you have a proper ID with your name on it.

Then again, I assume your fiance is on the reservation by name? If so,then he shows his ID. We have never needed more than one person to show ID at checkin or DME. So if he is on the reservation there's no issue either way.

And since DH and I have different last names (and DS is hyphenated), I'm an expert in having different last names, and there being absolutely NO issues with that. So there would be no worries if it's in your old name and you did happen to get your ID changed in time. Because only one adult shows ID. :)

Also, I expect new DL will take longer in any states that are using Real ID, which is required at airports if you're flying.

If you do online check-in, you may not need to show ID at all. When I stayed at BWV last month, I got a text with the room # while on DME and went straight to the room. But if you will not have ID in your new name, I would leave the reservation under your maiden name or put it in his name.
