More Q's on how to get more DVC!

I understand that you can purchase resales of "sold out" resorts outside DVC (Timeshare Store, etc...) and thanks to you, I now know that you can get on a DVC waitlist for points DVC reacquired thru ROFR.

Which is the better deal, if time is not a factor? Anybody out there done this recently?

Does DVC sell the newly available points at the current rate of the latest resort (i.e., SSR @ 84/per?) Or at a rate competitive with other outside resales? Or at last available at that particular resort?

How often does DVC offer reacquired contracts?

Advantages? Disadvantages? Experiences??

Again - many thanks for your time, and the GREAT info!

DVC will have a limited number of points at sold out resorts aquired through the Right of First Refusal. They sell all points at the same price, no matter if it is for the newest current resort or older resorts. The advantage is DVC pays all closing costs and your points will be available to you sooner.

If you purchase through resale, you must wait for the offer to clear the Right of First Refusal, and pay whatever closing costs are involved. Advantage here is lower overall price (usually).

For small add-on contracts to existing members, it is generally better to buy from DVC, for new members looking for sold out resorts, or larger add-ons I'd recommend resale. Also, a new member may buy a contract of under 150 points through resale, 150 points is the minimum through Disney.

dsp2,
You can't buy direct from Disney points at one of the older resorts unless you already have a contract with Disney. The points are sold to DVC members as add ons. If you own at Disney, call your guide and ask to be put on a waiting list for points at the resort you want.

Resale will be the cheapest. If one is a member already, it depends on which home resort and how many points you want.

Disney does sell reacquired points to current members first. There are still some BCV and VWL points where the contracts have fallen through and it seems a few new purchasers have been successful acquiring them, but you'd need to check with a guide about that. As far as price, they currently offered me $10 off for MB bringing the cost to $74/point for BCV. I don't believe there is MB for SSR.

I guess our use year is not one of the available ones at VWL. It's March, and our guide didn't even take our credit card number like the last time, so, it may be a long while before we add on more points there.:(

Thanks Bobbiwoz,

I am on the fence with a resale or going with DVC at this point. The only advantage I see right now is that DVC will finance. The resale will give me more points for my money though.
