Has anyone done this and if so through which company? We are looking at buy a resale DVC membership and would like some other peoples opinions and maybe their experience in doing this. Any info would be welcome. We were at WDW last week and took the DVC tour.

We purchased from Scott at the Timeshare Store and had a great experience.

You can sign up for a daily newsletter which makes it easy to keep up with new listings. Once you know which DVC property and Use Years you're interested in, look at the email for listings that are in your target price per point range. Once you see something, give them a call. It's actually a very smooth and easy process.

Good luck!

We bought directly through Disney so we could get as many points as we wanted (300) from the resort we wanted (Boardwalk Villas) for the month we wanted (August). It was painless from start to finish and we were even able to get the points from the previous year. :thumbsup2

I bought through Jaki and ****, *********. The process was quick and painless! If I needed extra points I would contact her in a heartbeat!

I would tell you but since they are not a sponsor of the boards one is not allowed to say their name.

Another vote for Jaki...........very good customer service and worked hard to find the contract we wanted.

We bought from the sponsor of this board twice now and like most people got a great deal. We tried to buy from Disney but in the end, the numbers for us just did not add up. We got what we wanted, where we wanted and the UY we wanted at the price Disney could not or would not match...smjj

We've purchased 2 resell contracts. 1 through the Timeshare Store and 1 with another seller. Both went well however I thought the Timeshare Store's communication was better. We've also sold 1 contract via Timeshare Store. I'd give them a big endorsement.

Actually we are looking for another small contract and will most likely use TSS.

Another vote for The Time Share Store. :thumbsup2

We just purchased a 100 point BWV contract through them and I must say Jerry made it very easy to purchase. Everything was handled very smoothly.

I am a moderator on another board and I just wrote an article about my experience. It's on their homepage right now.

I can't mention the other boards name, but you might be able to figure it out. ;)

Sold one thru Timeshare, very happy and will be listing a 50 with TS soon.

We also purchased through Timeshare Store. Great communication and walked us through entire process....very painless. Would highly recommend.:thumbsup2

My husband and I are hoping to buy into DVC within the next 6 months and plan to buy through The Timeshare Store. I had a question for anybody who can answer it. My husband really likes AK. I've narrowed mine down to AK, BLT and OKW. My question is this: how hard is it to get reservations at a resort that is not your home resort? I know that regardless of which we buy we would like to stay at the other at some point in time. I realize that the time of year you plan to travel is also a huge factor and understand the 11/7 month time period for home resort vs. other resorts.

Any thoughts/suggestions? Is there another thread that has answered/addressed my question that I've missed?

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!

I bought thru the timeshare store with Jamie carr and it was painless . A few e-mails and a couple of phone calls and it was done . I would only buy thru resale just because of the savings , everything else works the same .

I would tell you but since they are not a sponsor of the boards one is not allowed to say their name.
That's not correct -- no resale brokers are excluded from mention here because they are not sponsors. The sponsor is the Timeshare Store, but other brokers are referenced every day here, including in this thread.

If a broker's name get's starred out, it's for some other reason. Several years ago, there was one broker whose name would often be starred out because of violations of posting policies, but I've seen her mentioned occasionally here in the last year or so.

We've purchased both direct and through the Timeshare Store, and strongly recommend the Timeshare Store. Although we have had individual agents on various transactions, everyone we've ever contacted at TTS has been eager to help and thoroughly professional.

In addition, prospective buyers should realize that when they purchase resale (from any broker) they are buying in one of the most tightly controlled, heavily-regulated real estate markets in the United States. The resale brokers operate under exactly the same laws and standards as DVC. And in many cases, the resale brokers they are dealing with have been in business LONGER than DVC...so they are well-established, successful businesses with excellent reputations.

You're much safer dealing with most resale brokers than you would be buying direct from many timeshare companies, including a small, but growing number of DVC timeshare salesmen. DVC is pretty ethical as a company, but not all of their sales personnel are.

As far as direct vs. resale, I would have a very difficult time trying to justify a direct purchase from DVC unless a purchaser just HAD to have ownership in a property where there were no resale contracts available (VGC, and Aulani).

The price differences are simply too great, and there is too much inventory available through resale for me to even consider buying direct. If a prospective buyer can't find what they want immediately in this market, I'm sure they can if they exercise just a little patience.

DVC is a big luxury purchase - and an even bigger financial committment, if you consider the costs of the trips you're planning on taking. It's a great program, but nothing to rush into and nothing to take the easy, convenient path to. Take your time, do your homework, and be a smart consumer.

Hi, We purchased DVC though the TimeShare store. Jamie was our agent. We were also helped by (I think) Robert. They were very helpful and the transaction was painless.
We really wanted to buy a contract with banked points. So many of them seemed like pts were not available until 2011 or 12 without borrowing. We ended up with 160 pts at SSR. The contract we picked had the 2009 and 2010 pts available. We were happy with the price especially with the number of available pts. We think we got a good deal and really liked that we could choose from different pts values and all of the resorts.
Once we closed, Disney had us in the system within 5 business days. We immediately booked an October trip but the only resorts with any availablilty was OKW and SSR.
We did book a second trip for the week of March 14th (first week of spring break). We were able to book a 2 bedroom Savanah View at AKV at the 7 month mark. The member services rep stated all of the resorts had two bedrooms available and we could have our pick of resorts for that trip. So it seems like it is easy to book other resorts if you call the day of the 7 month mark from my limited experience.
If you do see something that looks like a good deal, I would suggest calling to make the offer rather than emailing so you don't lose it.
Good luck!!!!

My question is this: how hard is it to get reservations at a resort that is not your home resort? I know that regardless of which we buy we would like to stay at the other at some point in time. I realize that the time of year you plan to travel is also a huge factor and understand the 11/7 month time period for home resort vs. other resorts.
It varies greatly with time of the year, resort, and the specific type of accommodation you want.

From Thanksgiving through New Years, booking at any resort in the 7-month window will be difficult. Not impossible, but difficult. To be sure of getting what you want, you'll need to call exactly when your 11-month window opens. Also, the two Epcot resorts (BCV and BWV) are very difficult during the Food & Wine festival. Grand Villas anywhere are difficult, and certain specific accommodations (BWV standard view, AKV concierge, BLT MK view, etc) are difficult inside 7 months.

That said, our extended family (we have three families sharing our DVC) have made 30 DVC trips in the last five years, and only one of those (an early Dec trip) has been booked exactly at 11 months. We typically book inside 7 months, with very good success -- but we're flexible on resorts, dates, etc. In addition to our home resorts of OKW and SSR, we have booked successfully at AKV, BCV, VWL, HHI, and VB. I think the only situation where we were unable to book a resort we wanted was during a holiday period, and we got our second choice then.

Any thoughts/suggestions? Is there another thread that has answered/addressed my question that I've missed?
You're going to hear a lot of suggestions to "buy where you want to stay." Often, that "conventional wisdom" is really nothing more than a cliche people have heard often and have bought into without thinking it through. For many families, it makes perfect sense -- others simply don't care. Before you get too far into resort selection, you need to really think about which group you fall into.

To me, the key questions are really:
  1. Can you -- and will you -- consistently book your DVC vacations more than seven months in advance? Many families CAN book early; others, for business or family reasons, just can't. If you can't or won't book more than seven months out, home resort doesn't matter.
  2. Do you REALLY care where you stay? For many, anywhere onsite is wonderful. For others, if they can't get exactly what they want for a particular trip, it would really adversely affect their vacation experience. Some members own multiple resort contracts specifically to have 11-month booking at BCV for Food & Wine and VWL for Christmas, for example. Others are perfectly happy with a "points is points" approach (our group).

Two cautions I would offer:
  1. If most of your vacations (or your most IMPORTANT vacations) will be at WDW, buy one of the WDW resorts. That way, you should be able to get your home resort in the 11-month period and you'll have a villa at WDW. If you want to switch at 7 months, you can do that. If you are unsuccessful in switching, you still have a place to stay and an intact vacation.
  2. The other side of that coin is DON'T buy at a resort where you would be disappointed to stay.

Lauren0505,

Thank you for the kind words. We are happy to help you and others become DVC members. :cool1:

Enjoy your membership.

Robert

Jason at the Timeshare Store has done 3 of our 4 DVC contracts for us...he's been great! Our first was 100 pts at Vero, then 30 at OKW, another 50 at OKW; we bought 30 points at AKV in the middle direct from Disney because of the current incentive at the time, etc. All were handled very well and chances are, we will do so again at least a couple more times. Works very well for us to buy a little at a time and avoid financing. I would trust TSS with any transaction and don't think I'd even consider any of the others out there (even though I've heard good things about some of them too). JMHO. :)
