DVC Resale Question

I have dealt with two of the main three sellers and had no problems. The only reseller I might stay away from is a private sale on eBay. Other than that, you will save a lot of money going that route.

They told me the same thing! Understandably I guess. I did hear things like unscrupulous sellers may “strip” the contact before the sale is finalized and there may not be points available as promised.

nah, that stuff gets checked out (at least by competent brokers like the timeshare store) before you sign the final documents.

you do need to make sure you understand what you are getting - when your banking deadline is and when the pts expire...that you will owe dues whether you get any pts that year or not...

but the big issue is that resales cost disney salespeople money, and make no mistake, they are not paid to be "guides" but to sell contracts.

So I have one question to add to this topic. If we add points to a resale contract via Disney at a later date will all or any of the points become available for the Disney Collection bookings and such?

No. Points bought resale as of now will carry the restrictions, even if you own directly bought points.

When you purchase additional points--whether its through Disney or resale--you are buying a new contract and it remains as such.

If you have the same UY and title it the same way (Disney automatically does this), those points stay under the SAME membership, but are not combined into one new contract.

When you have multiple contracts under the same membership, then they can function as one big contract at the 11 month window if they are the same resort or at the 7 month window if they are different resorts.

For example, I bought 130 points at BLT from Disney. I then added on a 2nd contract through them with 50 points. When I look at my account, it says I have 180 points to use--however, I could sell either one of those contracts on its own.

Thank you this helps! So there is really no advantage to add points at another resort unless you buy enough to book at the 11 month window.

One more question on this topic: I am looking at a 50pt contract at AKV. This would be my initial contract in the DVC. I know that I would then be able to add on points either in 25 or 50 point increments. If I were to buy at AKV resale, can I buy ad on points at any resort? Or do they have to be at the original resort?

Thanks for your response Charles.
This is probably a redundant question, but what kind of luck are DVC members having booking at the 7 month window if their travel times are flexible?

I've actually been pretty lucky with getting a room at 7 months out and even 6 months out. We own at BLT but decided to try BC last year. I called right on my 7 month day and was able to score a studio for our entire 6 days. This was for the month of March and was pretty slow IMO. When we returned from our March trip I decided I loved BC so much I wanted to go back in Sept.:goodvibes I called the day after we returned (which was 6 months out) and was able to score a studio for 7 nights in mid Sept. I really think it depends on the time you go. I'm calling next month to try to score another Sept trip at 7 months out. I hope I get lucky again!:goodvibes Thanks! April

Any resort retail for 25 pts on cash or up (26, 27) or 50 pts financed at any resort available at the time through DVD. If you're planning on more points later you may be better off buying a larger contract initially even if it means waiting a year or 2 to buy. Only one closing and a better cost per point for larger contracts.

you can add on at any resort, but remember that at 11 months out, you will need the right "currency" to make a reservation.

if you have a 50 pt AKV contract and add-on a 200 pt SSR contract, then at 11 months out, only pts from your AKV contract can be used to book AKV and only pts from your SSR contract can be used to book SSR. then at 7 months out, you would have 250 pts that could be used at any available resort.

Thanks Dean. How does the use year work with adding on at different resorts? I know they cannot be combined until 7 months, but will Disney give you the same use year?

will Disney give you the same use year?

if you buy directly, disney won't offer you anything but the same UY.

if you wanted a different UY month for the new contract, it would not be an "add-on" to your current membership, it would be a whole new membership. so if the minimum purchase for a new member was 160 pts, you would have to buy 160 pts to get a different UY.

if you added-on by buying resale, same issues. a different UY month means you have a new membership number and it's more complicated to combine pts from the 2 contracts. if you buy a resale with the same UY month and it is titled the same as your prior contract, they can be combined together under one member number.

So just to confirm I am understanding. If I buy a resale contract and then add on with Disney at a different resort, I will have the same use year.

As Chalee noted, if you do an "add on" you must buy the same UY unless you hit the minimum for a new purchase direct, 100-160 pts depending on specifics.

Thanks for the answers in this thread. I was just looking at doing a resale add on, and the contract I was considering was a different use year. For my purposes I really want the points at my home resort to be seamless, without the having to transfer and then the hassle of different banking dates and complications combining the contracts to make reservations. :confused3 I think I will wait until I find one with the same use year.

Claire :)
