Can a renter add the DDP to the reservation, or does the owner have to make the call? My understanding is that the DDP cannot be added at check-in, right?

You are correct. The DDP can be added to a renter's reservation but it must be done ahead of time, so the owner of the points needs to call. Payment for the DDP will be at check-in.

MS says something like 2-4 days ahead of time at the latest. You can't wait until the day before or later. You will pay for it when you check in.
