Hi All,

After reading through the countless horror stories from both renters and owners working through David's, I was curious if anyone on these boards has had any rentals effected yet that utilized the DVC Store as an intermediary?

I organized a BWV rental for my wife, myself, and another couple for Aug 30-Sept 5 through the DVC Store and while I am holding out hope that at least the resort will be open, I am getting a little anxious about what may happen if the reservation is automatically cancelled.

Before reaching out to the DVC Store directly for some answers on what I am hoping will be a hypothetical situation in my particular case, I was wondering if anyone here may have already been impacted and would be willing to share some first hand information how the DVC Store is handling cancellations.

My hope that with the reputation the DVC Store has with both the DIS team and the boards, they are doing whatever they can to do best by both the renters and owners.

Thanks!

Honestly, I think the best thing to do is contact them and ask them how things are being handled. Since every rental is with a private owner, there may not be a one size fits all approach...which, is what it appears the one broker that has been talked about a lot is trying to do.

You may have an owner who can get you rescheduled, or willing to do a refund. But, ultimately, only the broker can tell you what they are doing in trying to help out both renters and owners if resorts are closed for reservations.

It was my understanding that owners book 11 months out to get the dates and resorts you want (Which is why you are buying at your home resorts).

But owners booking less than that can sometimes get a room if they are flexible with resorts/rooms/dates

I would be fine in a studio for multiple nights, 1 bedroom for the max number of nights I could get, 2 bedroom for the max, at any resort, for any string of days on any date.

Under that scenario, you might get something, But, what it could be is one night in a studio, and then a few nights at a different resort in a 2 bedroom and then some nights in a 1 bedroom.

Owners book at their home resorts, but they also jump on right at 7 months to change resorts,

Hard to believe, but yes, it’s crazy, When I rescheduled my trip at end of October, I couldn’t get 4 nights in the same room type. I ended up with 1 and 3 at different resorts, The next day, they were even gone and I had all of November back up dates,

Now that you have owners rescheduling, days are going at an even faster rate, So, with 240, you could end up with either piecemeal stay or a few nights in a bungalow or cabin,

Sorry to hear about your situations!

However, I was actually referring to renting through DVCStore, one of the sponsorship partners of the DIS. For my contract, I had to pay full cost upfront, similar to David's.

Has anyone had any contact with them regarding actual or potential rental cancellations to the shut down?

If your flexible there are open options. I just booked 10 day split stay (we like split stays) it not my first room pick but at least we will be there

So if I said to you I would like any #of nights (use up as many of my 240 pts possible but lose extra if it's impossible or more if necessary) for any date from August - as far ahead as you can go (now this is assuming they have a few months at least), in any room, there is absolutely not one single night (or more) that could be booked at any resort on any date?

There is availability especially with that kind of flexibility on dates and it sounds like room types. August even has some studio availability. Sept also earlier in the month. For other months it would likely be a 1BR. (I know because I've been rebooking from our lost April trip).

Have you reached out to them as to what they are doing? I am not sure if lovethesun is talking about DVC Store or David's.

You'd be able to get something. but as time goes it will be more limited. For example I just checked 10/4-10/11 as a random week. Only resort with full availability is SSR in a 1BR.

I haven't reached out yet because I figured they may be busy dealing with rentals that have already been impacted by closures. At this point, I am trying to remain optimistic that the resorts will be open by Aug 30th and plan on following through with the trip if this is the case. However, if the The Timeshare Store (DVCStore.com) is not planning to offer a refund/credit to renters impacted by closures, this would probably lead me to try a work with the owner/DVCStore to reschedule, if that is even an option.

Ideally, I was looking for someone to share their experience, if they had rental that had already been impacted. However, if no one on the boards has been impacted yet, I'll be happy to share any response I get once I reach out myself.

Neither. There are several companies with similar names. That's why it is important to post a link. ( She was posting about s business that is in the site's filter. Most of her posts in this thread have been deleted).

Whoops. I wasn't aware until recently we were suppose to post the actual link (I realize that's my own fault because it is probably in an introduction post somewhere). I went to edit my posts but they were deleted anyway.

I just wanted to report back for anyone out there that may be curious/worried, I was told this by a DVStore.com representative via their online chat functionality:

"Hi Brian, if Disney is closed during your travel dates you will be refunded. We could also reschedule your trip depending on when the member's points expire"

I still plan to reach out via e-mail to get this policy in writing, but this obviously great news for renters! Unfortunately I can't tell you what their policy is regarding owners renting out points, as I didn't think it was appropriate for me to ask.

I'll update this post if this information/policy changes, but for now kudos to The Timeshare Store for doing right by their renters in this difficult situation! I can see now why Pete and the DIS speak so highly of this company.
