Hi, I am fairly new here and have a few questions regarding renting from other members. I have read all the required info, but quite frankly still feel overwhelmed by the amount of information.
The members here all seem very nice, but navigating this site is like trying to get a rocket into orbit. (and I thought I was fairly interent savy;)
Anyhow, when I post a request for dates, or a series of dates, does the member who contacts me give me a price/offer?
I see many points listed for sale, but not exactly sure how to use them once I obtain them?
We have stayed at Disney (hotels) at least 25 times and are trying to venture out a bit to the DVC places, but I'm not sure what I'm doing. Seems as if when I tried on ebay, it was always a tiny time frame of dates that no one else wanted.(Like when you when a prize at a carnival between the ashtrays and the plastic doll)
I also joined redweek (which is simple to understand but not that great of a value) so I'm wondering if it is worth all the trouble?
Advice please from the DVC members or those who have had success renting from DVC members.
Thanks

Geo

Since the title of your thread is
DVC rentals from other members
I am assuming you are already a DVC member.

As such, there are several ways to supplement your points.

You can do an add-on and simply buy more points permanently from Disney or through resale.

You can essentially rent points from another member, by having them do a transfer in to your DVC account. This is limited to one transfer per use year, either in or out of your account, but not both. Transferred points can be banked, but banked points can not be transferred. Once an owner has transferred points into your account, they are your points, you make the reservations as you desire.

You can rent a reservation from another member. In otherwords, you can post, on the rent trade board, what dates, resort, and accomodation size you need along with the points required. Another member will make the reservation using their points, but will make the reservation in your name, for an agreed upon price. Remember that the other member always has final control of the reservation, and Disney/DVC will not become involved if the transaction goes sour.

No, I am not a DVC member.
I am just interested in renting from another member.
I posted on the rent/trade site my desired dates and places.
I assume that should anyone have those dates and is interested is
selling them, they will respond.
Now will they give me a price per point, or just a total price?
I am also assuming these type rentals include tax? (from what I have read)
but not daily room servicing?

Thanks for your patience.

No tax will be charged for a DVC rental. You will be renting from an individual, not a travel agent, so they aren't charging tax. First you need to determine the number of points your preferred reservation might cost by looking that up in the point charts through the clickable link at the top of the page. Then you can either post your needs on the rent trade board or look for someone who has points for rent. That person will work with you to make a reservation in your name at an agreed upon price. Usually that is based on a per/point price. Most folks will charge from $10-$14 a point, so that will give you a ballpark figure to work with.

As an example, let's say you want a 1 bedroom villa at OKW in September checking in on a Sunday and out on a Friday. You look up the points chart and find that an OKW 1 bedroom for those dates will "cost" 16 points a night, or a total of 80 points. You then find someone on the rent trade board who has at least that many points to rent at OKW and find out their per point cost and what your total cost would then be. Most owners will expect a substantial amount of the total due right away with the remainder due at some pre-determined time prior to your travel. Be sure to read all the stickys at the top to know what to expect.

As you are a non-member, you can not actually "rent points," you will be renting a reservation that is made and controlled by the DVC member. They can either give you a total price, or quote yo a price per points that you'll simply need to multiply by the number of points needed for the reservation.

Rental prices include tax. If you want a dining plan, be sure to let the member know, as they will need to add iit to the reservation, but you'll pay for the plan when you check-in at your resort.

Although most owners won't charge tax, there is always a theoretical possibility of an honest owner collecting the tourist and sales taxes and passing them along to the state/county.

Back to the OP's questions - this board has a Private Message (PM) feature. Once you post a request, owners can not only contact you by posting in the public forum, but by sending you a private message. If they do, you'll get a little pop-up telling you with a link to your private message.
