DVC Referral Program- What types of rewards?

Unfortunately think Disney must get their act together and treat all members equally in some way. Here in the UK not only do we not receive credit for referrall we are told we cannot receive Castaway Club membership information for security reasons. Very strange they cannot send this through the mail but can send promotional disney material for us.

This is, in our opinion, the only way Disney lets us down.
Brenda:confused:

It's not DVC making the rules. It's your local government. I have the same issue here in BC, OUR government doesn't let it. Ontario's does.

You need to find the right ear to complain to, DVC isn't :)

I love living in Texas but I do hate that I just referred a FOURTH person to DVC who bought in in the past year and I just get thank-you letters while my neighbors to the east get $$. Booh!

I started working to get the Texas law changed a few years ago. I received a clarification from Austin which should allow Disney to change their policy for Texas DVC Members.

Last year I was told that Disney reviews the policy yearly and if Texas qualified, the policy would be changed at the beginning of this year. I never heard a thing.

Through our Guide, I sent another email to the Disney Management responsible for the rewards program. I haven't heard back from them either. :sad2:

I recommend that all Texas DVC Members contact Disney and express their displeasure to the policy.

Thanks, Bill!
When I receive the thank-you letter from my guide, I'll be sure to call him and see if he knows what is up. From there, I'll work my way up the ladder.

Well, Bill, here's our answer:

Dear Angey,

Thank you for contacting DISNEY VACATION CLUB®.

We appreciate your interest in the Share the Magic Program. We still
offer the Share the Magic Program. At this time, Members living in the
state of Texas are still ineligble for any rewards for their referals.
Eligibility requirements are posted online at dvcmember.com in the Refer
a Friend located on the Home Page.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

I can't seem to find the eligibility requirements though. :confused3

That's not an answer, that is someone looking up Texas on a list. Disney isn't interested in correcting their policy because if they do, they will be paying money to Texas Members, see the conflict of interest.

I will follow up through channels next week and post my findings.

:earsboy: Bill

That is exactly what I am thinking. DVC is in no hurry to give out more money than they need to. I'm going to talk to my guide also when I get one of those thank-you letters. Thanks for your help!

In the last few months several have received the discount in purchasing with a referral, but I doubt very many members actually received a gift in return. I enjoy seeing others get the best possible price when buying.

Not sure why you'd think that (though I do realize your post was written in '09).

Our name was given as a referral, and I believe the referree got a discount AND we got the lovely giftcard. Took awhile, but it happened.

And our guide told us that the person that officially referred us was going to get the giftcard too, though she actually wasn't the cause of our first contact. Our shared guide, however, darned well knew that she was a big reason we finally caved in, though! :goodvibes

The timeshare laws are with the state. It's up to the state to make the chance, make it obvious (not just have one person tell their interpretation to one member of the public), and then things can change.

It's like people blaming amazon b/c buying Kindle books outside of the States is more expensive...they don't WANT to charge more, but they have to, because the other countries require it. It's the state/country causing it.

The Governments can control who receives a referral gift but they don't control the price that Disney charges for points. Is that what you meant?

Disney sets different incentives depending where you buy from. The phony base price will be the same for everyone but the bottom line price after incentives can/will be different.

The Preview Center at SSR, Telesales Guides, The remote Mall locations, DL, and DCL all have offered different incentives and/or prices.

Hey, Bill, here's another one for you. I wrote DVC back and told them how much it stinks that ALL members can't get the same incentives, that I'll just be satisfied with sharing the Disney magic. They wrote back:

We appreciate you being a DISNEY VACATION CLUB Member. I do apologize
for any inconvenience. Until the state of Texas changes their Timeshare
Law for rewards, we have to abide by it.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.
