This might be old news, but I thought I would post the following descriptions of DVC proposed resorts mentioned in a survey sent out to members recently.

Disney’s Las Vegas Resort
If Disney decided to build this resort, it would be located 30 minutes away from the Las Vegas strip, Disney’s Las Vegas Resort would offer both easy access to the excitement of Las Vegas, plus an escape to the activities and relaxation of a desert-oasis resort. Golf, rock climbing, hiking, biking, and scenic desert tour opportunities would abound. There would be no casino in this resort...just Disney-inspired vacation fun.

Disney’s Lake Tahoe Resort
If Disney decided to build this resort, it would be surrounded by mountains on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, Disney’s Lake Tahoe Resort would provide year-round opportunity for outdoor vacation fun and relaxation: ski season would offer ski-in, ski-out access to a major local ski resort and other snow-themed pursuits, while warmer seasons would provide access to the lake and its abundance of hiking, biking, and water activities.

Disney’s Los Cabos Resort, Mexico
If Disney decided to build this resort, it would sit on a secluded sandy beach at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, Disney’s Los Cabos Resort would offer all the best of a relaxing Mexican ocean-side vacation getaway. You could recline on the beach; involve yourself in activities like golf, scuba, sailing, or sport fishing; or head into nearby towns of Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo for shopping or dining adventures.

I'd be interested to see what location they have in mind for North Lake Tahoe. Not much real estate left up there, especially with Lake access...

It's gone around a few times, but I don't think anyone has shared the descriptions before. I took the survey two nights ago and my final comments were about wanting more properties at WDW, DL, and the parks overseas - primarily Paris.

I have the same problem with these suggestions that I have with DL and Hawaii -- if I wanted to go to those locations, I'd go somewhere else.

If I wanted to go to Vegas, I wouldn't want to be 30 miles out of town -- I'd want to be on the Strip in Vegas. [ETA: If I wanted to go to the Southwest, it certainly would NOT be to Vegas!]

If I wanted to ski, I'd go to Colorado or Utah. There are good reasons why I haven't skied at Tahoe, and Disney putting a resort there doesn't change that.

If I wanted to go to Mexico, I'd go to the Gulf Coast, not all the way to the tip of Baja. For what?

If I wanted to go to Hawaii, I'd want to be either on Maui, or Kauii, or the Big Island -- not in the crummy area of Oahu.

I'm with the poster above -- I'd rather see additional options at WDW, and some of the overseas Disney theme parks. Those locations offer unique advantages -- Tahoe certainly doesn't.

I feel completel opposite as the above poster.

I think DVC Vegas might be cool for us families that have little kids. I've stopped going to Vegas just because the strip isnt a place I want my kiddos. I think 30 mins away is a little too far....maybe 10 mins away or something like that.

Tahoe......I love it!! I think Tahoe is great and same for Cabo! The Pacific side is nice as well and I'd most certianly go back to Cabo if DVC were there with a resort to stay at!

Honestly the more locations DVC is the more likely I am to continue to add more points on!

How often do you visit Tahoe and Cabo now? Do you find the current resort choices in those areas inadequate? Would you be happy vacationing there every year or every other year? (We do hope that if the resorts are built that someone will want to vacation there as their regular destinations!)

Did all members receive the survey? We did not, was it by e-mail?

I did not receive it, and I would not choose any of those three destinations.

Usually all members do not receive this type of survey. It does seem a larger than normal percentage for an average survey were asked to participate.

The invitaton was issued via snailmail, which directed you to a website with a password.

I don't like any of the choices!

VEGAS? Disney doesn't even allow gambling on the ships but they are going to build a resort in the middle of the desert 30 mins from the action. Who wants to go to Vegas if you can't gamble? Plus Vegas has a lot of unique resorts already. I don't think I'd think I'd actually like going to a Disney resort in VEGAS. Didn't Vegas already try to lure the Families there?

The resort they are building in Hawaii looks awesome, but I know I will never go to it. Its just too far to make it worthwhile. If I lived on the West Coast my answer would definitely be different.

Interesting choices for new locations. It seems to me that the "best" choices for locations would be ones where they could create a sustainable competitive advantage over any competitors. For example, putting a resort on the monorail. I would guess they could create resorts at the other Disney properties around the world and have an advantage with those as well. Non-Disney related locations could work too, but they need to be careful not to damage the Disney "image" or choose a location where competitors would have the advantage on them. Las Vegas strikes me as a particularly poor choice since it doesn't fit the Disney "image" and I would imagine most people traveling to Vegas would prefer a spot on the strip (putting them at a competitive disadvantage).

DVC Las Vegas, DVC Lake Tahoe and DVC Los Cabos - brought to you by the same people who simplified the booking process. :lmao:

Totally bizarre if you ask me. I think Disney is getting completely mixed up. :confused3
:confused3
A lot of these destinations are destinations in and of themselves. No Diseny intended. Disney should be its own unique destination. I can't imagine any of it coming to fruition. But it wouldn't surprise me.

For a newbie.

Can someone describe any information on any new resorts besides the 8 that are already in existence. Hawaii, Disneyland, the land by the Contemporary, I know that Disney has not confirmed any of these but this board is very knowledgable and knows information before the general public.

Can someone update a newbie?

Thanks,
Jerry(jjgraff30)

The Grand Californian at Disneyland was announced as a DVC resort by DVC. Sales have not yet started, and it may be a while as CA timeshare law may require the resort to be further along in construction than FL before sales begin.

The Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary, while timeshare paperwork has been filed with the state of FL, has still not been officially announced by DVC. I would expect several more months before an announcement and/or sales begin so that at least some finish out interior work is done, there is plenty of AKV inventory for them to sell in the meantime.

DVC in Hawaii, as far as I know, ground has not been broken, though it has been announced as a combined hotel/DVC resort, as probably all future off-site development will be. It was estimated that sales may begin in 2010. I'm sure it depends upon economic factors, like travel costs, as Hawaii with current airfares, is pretty pricey, even for West Coasters.

Remember that there have been official annuncements before of future DVCs that were canceled and never built (Newport Beach, CA, Eagle Pines at WDW) and speculated resorts that also have not, so far, been built (New York & Colorado.)

I actually like the idea of these three resorts. At some point, we will not want to go to Disney every year, and since trading out is not the best use of points, having other DVC locales seems to make perfect sense to me.

Cabo and Lake Tahoe are fantastic destinations, and I think that I might actually do Vegas with the kids if we had someplace kid appropriate to do it. Although I agree that 30 minutes from the strip doesn't make much sense, I'd still want the flexibility to get to the strip for an evening with my husband if we wanted to.

Thank you for the information.

Colorado and New York, what are the rumors?
