DVC Presentation experience

In the past, DVD management trained their sales people to take on the role of the friendly guide and being friendly and not pushy was their policy.

Today under new management, things have changed. Some sales people are just sales people and others still play the guide role. Bottom line is that Disney wants to make a sale and they don't want to waste there time if you aren't going to buy. They also know that if you don't buy today while you are blinded by the pixie dust, you may not buy. There is a reason that there is an active resale market.

Buy DVC if it makes sense to you, not because someone is selling it to you.

I spoke with a couple who had just done the dvc tour in line for Kilimanjaro Safari a few weeks ago, they mentioned a high pressure sales experience too which really surprised me at the time. That and the whole BLT 4th of July fiasco makes me think DVC has really changed, which bothers me a bit. That and they also mentioned the sales person had never mentioned the Riviera resale restriction, I was in sales for 13 years and was a top 3% sales rep almost every year, and I can’t believe any decent rep wouldn’t believe in full disclosure. It’s better to know before buying then to find out later you were lied to.

And if you found out that you were lied to, what are you going to do, sell your contract? Disney doesn't care someone else will buy it. You could stop going to Disney, again they don't care because they expect to lose repeat guests and they are replaced with other guests who may spend even more money.

We didn't have a great experience, either. Our salesperson was nice enough but she was pretty pushy with Riviera as being the "only choice that made any sense" given contract lengths. We did end up signing a Riviera contract that day but later cancelled it. She acted like we were being really ridiculous about our concern over Riviera resale restrictions. She told us that it wouldn't matter at all. There would be a waiting list 5 years long like there is for Grand Floridian (is that even true??). When we cancelled she said she'd asked everyone in her office and nobody could see a problem with the resale restrictions. Up until that point, we were still considering buying a smaller amount of points direct and then a larger resale contract. But she really wasn't very nice and it definitely turned me off. We plan to just buy resale now.

VGF 5 year waitlist? Nah.

I've never been through the sales experience. We bought resale and after we bought, one of our friends who works at DVC (as a shuttle driver) brought us over to the sales center and gave us a tour - at the time it was VGF rooms, but we didn't get to see a sales pitch. I can't say we ever considered direct or resale, but at the time the difference was much less than it is today.

One other thing - the best thing that can happen if people agree to a direct contract and then cancel and tell them they changed their minds due to resale restrictions. The only way Disney changes the rule is if it hits them in the wallet and they know it.

Remember maybe 7 years ago that they went to a "2 Parks - one world" policy where ALL the merchandise at both DLR and WDW became generic so every place was selling the same thing? Well, merch sales took a massive hit with this policy - so since then they've instead swung in the opposite direction and now they sell specialty merchandise for EVERYTHING. Hit them in the wallet and you get change.

Wow. That is one salesperson who has completely bought the party line. Basically, not thinking on her own but simply acting as a parrot. Run! Run! (Glad you rescinded.)

We waited about 3 months for our direct VGF points both times we tried, funny thing is the first time we tried to buy direct they put us on the waitlist, by the time my guide got back to me, we had just passed ROFR on a 150 point VGF contract and declined the points.

I had a similar situation years ago ,For my 1st points I went to a presentation in the magic kingdom ,possibly just walked in ???
There where two guides there and they where talking about BLT I got very interested asked a few questions ,I cant remember if there where fast passes involved or not but they gave me this great hard covered book with all the properties and collections involved with DVC at the time ---Great experience ,went home did my research on and a few months later I called in and purchased BLT on the phone it wasn't built yet so it took a year I think before I had my 1st stay
In between the opening and buying I had a larger family trip planned and this was so nice we met up with our guide and had ice cream showed my husband and family the mocked up rooms she gave my DH and I each a tote bag and a hat and our whole group fast passes ----so great Jenna !

In 2011 I had a BLT trip in Feb. but in January I had some crazy illness and I had found out I was going to be down for about 6 weeks
before I would have my strength back so no flying and tons of meds and rest .
Instead of canceling my hubby said he would drive me and this is the most pixie magic ever as our trip was only 8 days out
I called member service and asked to talk to a supervisor and I wanted to use the rest of my points for anything they could pull out a week in ,
---they looked and searched daily for me and put together 3 days at the yacht club points trade in and 4 days at the beach club..
So I could have that beautiful pool to recoup

Sorry about all that but thats how i ended up in the yacht club ,resting in the lobby 1 night
the girl asked me if i wanted to do a DVC tour ,sounded fun
I wasn't doing parks so I said yes well OH my God it was the worst and I still think about it often
I dont believe it was a presentation I met with some senior guide women
(Jenna was on the ships by then ) aThis woman showed me a Sarattoga room
BY that time I was totally in love with the BCV and asked her about that ,she got mad
her whole attitude changed and then at some point I told her that I had BLT and she said that
this was only for serious buyers and that this was her Job insinuating I was wasting her time ---
Then she told me I wasnt getting my fast passes -
(who cares I couldn't do parks anyway that trip ) or my $100 gift card (which I didn't even know about )
and she took me back out to the lobby area while she was talking to some guy and glaring at me I went outside sat on a bench in total shock and called a taxi
she made me feel s.....o bad -Its not like I ran up and solicited them - Whenever I think about that now I cant believe I ever took that crap from anyone
I think it must have been just the weekness from my illness -not being worth the my effort ...
- Thankfully the first experience went so well
I love my points and later I was never doing that again I got the second contract resale Win -Win there !

Definitely a blatant lie to try and scare the purchaser. My guide said he has plenty of 2019 UY GF points right now. Sept, Oct, and Dec UY may have to wait, but not 5 years. :sad2:

Unfortunately as long as there are people who fall for misstatements and pressure they will play the numbers game and run the risk of turning people like you off by being so aggressive. It's the nature of the business, and Disney has delved deeper and deeper into the timeshare business over the years.

I bet they are the ones kicking themselves for letting BLT go for $100 a point and Beach Club and Boardwalk go for in the $80s. Think of all the lost profit.

We had a mixed experience touring for the first time in early July. We had booked the tour with pixie dust in our eyes, and after researching, arrived knowing we wouldn't buy DRR direct. However, we went through the presentation and the guide was very accommodating - however, certain things he said were off-putting.

Fast forward to this week. We put in on a SSR resale contract and we were debating buying a direct contract as well. I emailed our guide and said that we weren't consider DRR due to the resale restrictions and could he send us info on Aulani and OKW direct. He responded with a long email about how Aulani probably wasn't the right fit and DRR was going to be so desirable that it would hold its value. He finished the email well, told me to keep the questions coming, but he comes across as very slick and I just don't trust him. If we trust our guide a bit more, honestly, we might have bought direct in July (we liked the DRR rooms) and we might have bought direct this week.

Will we buy direct one day? Who knows. For now, we will see if this resale contract goes through and if not, maybe cool our jets for a while.

Thanks for sharing!

I've heard lots of noise that DRR is not selling like they hoped. The restrictions and the price point are keeping people away. I am sure they are being asked to push it hard. Disney would much rather sell DRR because I am sure they have quotas to meet on it. That is really nothing new, but it could be worse if DRR is really not selling. (Wait until you see next week's DISunplugged DVC show!)
