DVC presentation and deceptive guide

I agree with Brian Noble said about sales technique, but not the "tour gifting" comment. Back in 2005 I received a mailer from Disney to tour SSR and they threw in a 3 night stay at Carribean Beach (or was it Port Orleans...) and 2 day park hoppers for $98 for the whole thing. Apparently I was on some kind of list. I called to book it directly with disney ms (CRO dept). I ended up having to cancel when I got a really great job. When I cancelled, CRO ms was shocked--as a Disney fan, she had never seen such a great deal in her life. I hadn't either, but I had to work. :confused3 That was my first intro to DVC. I still wish I did that trip :)

You would think Disney would have trained the guides to say something like this? Maybe they do, but this guy was having a "bad day"?
Oh, of course they're trained to say that kind of stuff -- if for no other reason than to keep them from getting into deceptive trade practice situations.

"You can't say this...but you can say..." ;);)

And you can be sure that during training or sales meetings they talk a lot about objections a prospective purchaser might have and how to overcome them.

A timeshare salesman saying things like Brian mentioned is not having a "bad" day, they're having a good day!

In DVC's favor, their salespeople are generally more scrupulous than many other companies. But they're still timeshare salespeople, not your friend.

I'm guessing they are trained in what not to say, because there are certain mis-representations that can potentially void a deal that is past its rescind date. But, I suspect that the more "interesting" examples of what *to* say are probably one of those word-of-mouth things between successful guides.

Suppose there *was* training in how to "lead" a guest. Suppose further that, in the course of a lawsuit over something or another, someone manages to obtain those documents in discovery and they are later entered into the public record of the suit. That's bad news for Disney. Better to keep these things verbal, between friends, in a plausibly deniable sort of way.

The successful guides will figure out quickly what works and what doesn't. And, they will use anything that works as long as it doesn't get them in hot water with the company or the law.

They are salespeople first and foremost. They make their living by selling things just like any other salesperson. I would expect Disney salespeople to be no more or less sales-like then any other industry. It sucks for sure but they are not immune to it just because they work for Disney. :goodvibes

All reports from boards and from resale agents are that Disney is not ROFRing much of anything except BCV.

My guide recently told me that DVC is buying back every VGC contract that comes up thru resale. There has been very few for comparison but all reported on this board have passed. And I hadn't even brought up resale to my guide! I know it's a line though and decreases their credibility in my eyes.

Kathy- i hope they are not ROFR'ing too many BCV contracts-- my potential purchase was sent to ROFR about 2 weeks ago and i'm beyond antsy!!! Keeping the fingers crossed!!!

Hopefully they have bought back all they want to at the moment and yours will pass. Good luck! :goodvibes

Of course, I live in a state where the board of education likes to change history as written in the school books. ;)[/QUOTE]

what is BLT AND WHAT IS ROFR?

Bay Lake Tower = DVC Resort across from Magic Kingdom

ROFR = Right of First Refusal. Timeshare Resorts such as Disney, Marriott, Orange Lake, Hilton, etc. have what is called Right of First Refusal. Basically this means that they look at all agreements made between buyer and seller on the resale market. If they feel the price is right for them to buy it then they just take over as the buyer and the buyer is not able to buy the package.

I hope that helps.
