How do you find someone to rent points from? I am interested in VWL specifically- any input is appreciated!

Go to thr rent /trade board and be as detailed as possible (VWL date ,type of room)they will find you.

The DVC Planning Board here on the DIS is a great place to get information on renting. If you were to do a search on "how to rent points" I am sure you would find lots of threads. We rented points to stay at OKW and had a great experience! PM me if you have any specific questions!
