So, my family just purchased our first DVC contract and have a trip scheduled for June!

I also just purchased our PAP's today...

I was thinking of booking one or two nights with cash to conserve points because of the current room deal for Disney AP holders. I was told that I could get this discount even though my passes haven't been activated yet.

My first question is, can anyone confirm that I can book this rate even though our passes aren't active?

And, is this crazy to pay cash for a room when I have points I could use? Believe it or not, I have always wanted to stay at POR and I think I could get a pretty good price on that resort for one or two nights. I realize it's not as luxurious as the DVC accommodations but it's just something I'd like to do!

Thanks!

You can call and book a room at the AP Rate. You will be required to show the AP at check-in or within 24 hours of arrival to keep the AP rate.

I booked an AP rate at BWV last November before my PAP was activated, it was 35% off. Even with 35% off it was around $285 including tax (studio). Luckily a points room came through (15 points per night) and I cancelled the cash room.

There is nothing wrong with a couple of cash nights to conserve points. I allow extra time when I drive down to Disney in case of road hazards/condition so I sometime arrive a night early. When I do, I call and book a cash night with AP discount at a value resort.

They are your points and your AP, use them however you wish.
