Hello. :sunny:
I am currently planning our next family Disney Holiday, and have decided to rent 55 DVC points for the BWV early July 2007. ( I have only just discovered how brilliantly cheap this can be and the money that we save will go towards a few days at RPR or HRH at Universal). :thumbsup2 I have checked the DIBB and the UK section of this site but the rental of points is not very common at all.
It looks like I will be posting on this amazing site and would really, really appreciate some advice on how the whole transaction is processed, ie do I pay through PayPal or Credit Card etc. and at what stage or stages do I pay? Do I have to be more wary as I am in the UK?

All info is greatly appreciated. :goodvibes :goodvibes

p.s. I can't get my Tickerfactory thing to work

Renting is fairly simple on your side. Basically you find an owner that has the points. You agree to a price and they search out availability for your stay. Once this is agreed you may have to sign a contract and give a deposit. Some owners do take paypal and some do not. If they do you may have to pay a 3% upcharge to cover any paypal fees. The rules have changed for renting now. Member services, MS, will know longer accept phone calls from renters so all the changes have to go throught the owner. If you can get a good price, go for it...I know that with this rule change rental $$ may be on the increase.

Thankyou for quick reply. :thumbsup2

Is there a standard contract and what should it cover, and is this physically sent and signed or is it emailed or faxed?

Point rentals are up to the individuals involved. It's no different than buying any item from someone...there is no standard practice or paperwork. Keep in mind, Disney has absolutely nothing to do with this...it's strictly between you and the DVC owner.

A written agreement is recommended but some don't bother. Some ask for a deposit then the balance after the reservation is made. Some make deposits and subsequent payments non-refundable in case of cancellation.

And some insist on PayPal, and some refuse to use it. All up to the individual.

As a renter, you should request a written agreement so everyone understands their responsibilities and payment schedules. Keep in mind that there is risk on both sides, especially as the time nears to the reservation dates. So it is reasonable to expect the DVC owner to request full payment say, 30-60 days before you travel. That has to do with the fact that if the reservation is cancelled, they might have problems using the points and would lose them.

Good luck!

Ditto... I think granny has it just right. I would though, recommend PayPal (or some 3rd party processor), because it gives both the seller and the buyer rights to recourse should something go wrong. Good Luck.

Since you are from the UK, you might be interested in advice from some of your fellow UK citizens who have some xperience renting DVC accomodations. Sometimes it is easier to deal with someone close to home, LOL.

There are many UK DVC members - they even have their own Forum here on the DIS. If you haven't visited there yet, why not drop in?

Best wishes -

P.S. You are also very welcome here!
