DVC points from 2 separate places for one resi?

Hi! We are newbies to using DVC points and I have a lot of questions. I was hoping I could get some help and didn't know where else to post.

We have the following situation. We have 4 kids and 2 adults so looking for a 2 BR property and because we want to be on the monorail for the 2 yo twins, we are trying to stay in BLT in September of 2014.

It's 273 points for a weeklong stay. We are buying 160 points from a friend who is renting them to us. I have to get the rest somewhere else...I assume that site that sells them for $14 pp, etc.

I don't understand how that process works to combine them for a reservation...or do I book 2 reservations? The 160 gets us 4 nights...so do I book a 4 night resi and then a 3 night resi?

Since the twins pushed our family to more than 5, this is all very new to us, but staying on points seems to be the most cost effective way to be on the monorail (important for us with the little ones).

So, trying to make sense of it all and hope someone can help us.

Thank you all so much in advance.

you are not actually buying those pts. you are renting a reservation made with those pts. if you tried to contact MS to make or change that reservation, they would not speak to you.

you have one reservation and you need another one. you would have them make a second reservation - with exactly the same room type - and then ask MS to link it to your first reservation. then they will try to keep you in the same room.

Actually, you cannot link the reservations unless you are a member. I have done this with other DVC members who have rented add-on points from me, but I have also asked to have points rented from me added to other reservations and was told by MS that it could only be done if adding to a member's reservation.

However, that should not be a show stopper. You can use different reservations to make up a trip. You will just need to check out of one reservation and check in for the next. However, there is no guarantee that you will stay in the same room.

One thing we like to do in these situations is make the second reservation in a completely different resort. We find it's fun to try out different places and get different amenities during the trip. The neat part is that Disney moves your luggage for you! Just go to the parks when you leave the first resort and return to the new resort to check in after a day at the parks.

Good Luck,

Denis

Semantics. I understand the process. It's a rental. The owner is making the resi.

Thanks for the info.

Thank you for the information. It is appreciated. With the little ones, although we would like to explore, it doesn't make practical sense for us. We will just make 2 reservations and hope for the best. If we move, we move.

Thanks for helping me see how the process would work.

I've combined reservations with a member friend. I booked 3 nights, she booked 3 nights and then we had them linked. It worked fine, it was treated as a 6 night stay with no additional check-in's required. The last time was about a year ago.

That's great to know...we just rented the 99 points from David's and we're waiting on the confirmation. Then we'll book the rest and see what happens. Thank you for posting..

there is another option:
have points transferred into your friend's DVC acct (they can use a rental co e.g., david's, or private party - you would just pay your friend).

then the ressie can be booked as one contiguous stay, and you would only need to contact one person with any requests, changes, etc (MDE, DDP, room requests).

Unless the friend has already had one transfer in or out already. Then they can't transfer until next UY.

Just to clarify, you rented a multi-night stay. Not 99 points. You'll have two reservations that need to be linked.
