DVC points for GCV hotel

Just wondering, if we use our DVC points to stay at the GCV, is it guaranteed that we'd have a room (as long as there is availability in the hotel)? Or is there some limit to the number of DVC points allowed to be used at the hotel at any given time. (I am thinking of the FF mile programs on airlines, where they only reserve a set number of seats for FF point redemptions).

Once you have booked on points, you are guaranteed a room for that date. I have been told that only a certain number of rooms is available to book using points at any given time. So you may want a certain date and it is not available, but could pay cash for one. It all depends on vacancies too. The hotels at DLR are usually fully booked, and have been running at 95% + occupancy for a few years now. So book early. Others have told me they have no problem booking at the last minute, so it's really hit or miss at the last minute.

Last Friday - 1/25 - I just booked for a 2-night stay at GC on 3/1-3/2 using points. Honestly, I was pretty surprised to get it so close, especially since we were wanting DCA view and I know those can book up fast. The biggest tip is to book early for those high crowd times of years, just as you would normally.

We love being able to use our points at DLR when we aren't able to get out to WDW.

I've had pretty good luck booking within 2-6 weeks of travel for GC or DH.

Just booked (using our points) 2 standard rooms for Oct. from Thurs to Sat. There were only standard rooms left. There are usually AP rates offered for this time, too. I think that although Oct is usually a slow month, that is quickly changing with their Halloween Treat Event becoming popular. We usually go to this event since my kids have a week off in Oct. Seems like it will be a hit and miss thing.
We too are wishing for ownership at the Grand Californian. We go all the time.
