DVC points for campsites?

We would like to use our DVC points for camping next summer but, we were advised by DVC that we must wait until 11 months out. We did this exactly 11 months at 9 am eastern and then we were told, "check back in September maybe."
I'm not sure what to believe and I was wondering if ANYBODY has been able to use their points for a campsite...ever?
If worse comes to worse I will rent out my points for cash and use that money to pay for the site. I would like to arrange this soon though so that I can make the reservation we'd like anyway. I may just go ahead and reserve it by cash and if I can do DVC, fine.
Anyway, if anyone has had luck using their points on a campsite, please let me know if there is a "trick" to it.
I didn't put this in the DVC section as nobody there seems to be familiar with campsites for DVC points.

the problem isn't using the points, it is that you cannot make ressies for next summer yet at all. the system is only allowing ressies for arrivals on or before 12/31/10. just keep checking back. it isn't announced when they've opened up the timeframe. we have used points a few times, but usually pay cash. we think you get more 'bang for the buck' by using the points for cruises or for the home resorts. if you are going to use points for camping be sure to get the premium site for 1 extra point per night.

I've used my points to rent a campsite several times at the Fort. My biggest complaint is that it is considered an exchange and you can't use your points within 4 months of the end of your use year. My use year is April, and because of that I can't ever use points for the Fort in February when I have a break (I work for the school system). Also, if you have to cancel, you can only use the points for an exchange (non-DVC resort) and you can't bank them. It's a pain. I've been in this situation twice now. :(

I wish they would make a DVC section at the Fort so that it wouldn't be considered an exchange.

We were thinking about looking into the DVC, but from what I've read, it wouldn't do us much good since we only stay at the Fort. Do you other DVC owners agree? TIA!

in my 14 yrs of owning DVC, i have only used points the last 3 yrs or so. I have never had a problem in getting it booked when I call. I think using points is pretty good bargain for campsites, especially compared to cruising where the points are overcharged ( you could rent them out and pay less cash with that money). Probably the best, of course, is at the DVC resorts themselves. I am paying 146 points for two weeks coming up. If i rented them for $10 a point, i would get $1,460. to pay cash at the fort in a preferred site, it is $1,352, so it is very close and i don't have to deal with renting mine out which can be a hassle.
holly, that situation you have stinks! i would love to have a designated dvc loop!
