DVC points for a stay at a resort

Can I ask why you'd want to use DVC ponts for a hotel stay, instead of staying at a DVC resort? Using DVC points for a hotel stay is a very inneffective use of points. It is JUST AS (if not more) expensive to stay at a WDW hotel than paying regular cash rates. For example it costs $299 per night at the Polynesian during value season. It costs 32 points for a Sun - Thurs night and 58 points for a Fri - Sat nights. That equates into 276 points and with DVC points usually renting for $10 per point, $2760 for that week stay. The cash rate for those 7 nights would be $2334. If you only stay on the weekdays, that rate is approximately the same, but those weekend nights kill you. Now, with discount codes seeming to be available again, that is MUCH cheaper than using DVC points for a resort stay. Now, those same 276 points, could get you a 1 bedroom or a 2 bedroom villa depending on which time of the year you intend on traveling.
