We have a DVC point trip planned. I want to add an extra night to the trip without having to change rooms, but there are no more point rooms available, but I can book my exact room with cash (don't get me started on the unfairness of that!). Are they the same room? If I do this, will I be able to request to stay in the same room?

· I am cross posting this since I am not sure if it is a DVC or resorts topic.

If its the same category of villa (same size and same booking/view category), then you can link a cash room with a DVC reservation. You will need to contact Member Services and request that they link the two different reservations. If you are renting points from a DVC member, you may need to have the DVC member make the request for you.

I wouldn't characterize this situation as "unfair"; its how the DVC system works. By rule, Disney must retain at least 2% of a DVC resort's inventory for itself. That small inventory cannot be rented out by DVC member using points because it doesn't belong to the DVC member inventory. Instead, Disney can use these rooms any way it chooses.

In addition, Disney acquires additional rooms from the DVC inventory whenever members choose to exchange their DVC points for stays at the Disney Collection (which includes the Disney Cruise Line) and other non-Disney hotel collections. In order to pay for these exchanges, DVC converts the members' points to cash reservations. If DVC couldn't get cash by renting out the rooms, then it couldn't allow DVC members to make these exchanges.

If you are booking thru member service, just have them linked. If you are booking thru CRO let the front desk know about the 2 reservation when you check in. Most likely you will not have to move. Have a great trip. I would also call the resort to see if they can let you use points for a CRO room. Sometimes if within 30 days you can.

Some categories won't be available on cash, usually the standard or specialty views or more in demand locations like near HH at OKW. If you have the easy to get areas you should be OK but will have to check back in again on the change day and need to request to stay in the same room at multiple points if it's through Disney not DVC. BTW, there are rooms that are available with cash that do not belong to DVC members inventory or have been removed for legitimate reasons and there are rooms reserved on points owned by DVD or DVC that may be available for cash through MS and in that case may be able to be linked to a current reservation.
