DVC Points close to use year bank/borrow

We've been members since 2002 and I've never had to worry about this scenario because we usually go at the same time every time... but that might change in our future trip. We tend to go with a big group and use a lot of points every couple of years.

But we're thinking of changing the "when". Which places us into the new use-year ( instead of the end ). And I'm now unsure of the policy regarding booking time vs actual vacation time.

So in short, when I use points, do they need to be in the use year of the time I'm TAKING the vacation, or the time I'm booking. Here's what I mean...

Our use year is April. So if I have let's say 200 points. I want to go IN April 2020. I can call to book my home resort May of 2019. So does that mean I can take my 200 2019 points, bank them into 2020 *and* borrow from 2021?
Or is the fact that I'm still IN the 2019 use-year mean I can't borrow from 2021?

Banking and borrowing is based on when your vacation is. So, you can bank your 2019 points, then in May 2019 you can book for April 2020 using 2019, 2020, and 2021.

I just did this for June 2019. My UY is March. I banked my 2018 points that remained after my upcoming January trip was booked. Then I booked a vacation in June using the banked 2018 points, all of my 2019 points, and borrowed a few points from 2020. Currently, I am still in my 2018 UY.

You can if you bank your 2018 points into your 2019 UY.

I saw an announcement on the member site that they now have added a function that allows you to bank during a booking whereas before it was a separate process and you had to do it prior to booking.

I think I'd still do it ahead.

Points question - just bid on AKV, 150 points will expire 31 Jan 2019 (Feb UY), is there any way for Disney to extend the expiration on these points if we haven't closed yet? or some other option?

No. It's beyond the banking deadline and they won't help resale out with that.

If they have already been banked once then no.

If the banking deadline was missed then you can ask but while possible they'll say yes it's more likely they'll say no.
