DVC Point Transfer Rules

My apologies if this question has already been asked and answered: I have 2 memberships at different resorts and need to use points from both contracts to book an upcoming trip because I don't have enough points to book all nights one one contract. What's the best strategy for me to use? The resort I'd like to stay at isn't a home resort, so I need to modify my reservation at the 7 mo. window and would like to add the last night at that time.

The only way to do this as a single reservation is doing your one transfer per UY.

Be aware that if you have any banked or borrowed points in the membership that receives the points you transfer, those must be used first.

Once transferred they can’t be returned and you won’t see them except when booking since they out a temporary contract in your account.

So, what I would do is just transfer the points a few days before the 7 month window so they are there and you can just modify your home resort booking at 7 months and have the points there when you modify.

Can you "lock" the banked and borrowed points in a reservation, then transfer and use the transfer points , then cancel the reservation?

Re: new policy of only one transfer - is it possible they could take even this away at some point?

All of my direct points are in June UY/resale is in Dec and I’m debating buying a favorite week direct contract in Dec (June wouldn’t work given when the week falls).

On the years I don’t use them as FWs, I do foresee wanting to combine the direct points so if there’s a chance they could limit any transfers down the road not sure it would be worth it.

Does this fall in the ‘anything is possible, but unlikely’ category?

I think it's pretty unlikely they will ever get rid of transfers all together. They have been there for as long as I know of, and may have always been allowed since DVCs inception. It would make members angry as they would me more likely to have points expire unused and increase the need for some members to rent, which they seem to be trying to reduce.

The one transfer rule has always been the rule, they just weren't counting it if you were transferring your own points. Now they are enforcing the transfer limit rule for all transfers, but at the same time actually updated the rules to it make it more flexible for multiple-use-year members to use their points by allowing transferring banked/borrowed points and allowing banking/borrowing transferred points. Some think this is to stop commercially renting members from stripping and flipping contracts, which makes sense.

Mine are separated into WDW (Sept) and non-WDW (Feb) so I hopefully won't have need of transfers all that often. But even then the new rules make it so you can still in-effect have have multiple chances to use points in the same use year.

Ex. Transfer 2025 points between contracts for 2025 use year transfer. If you messed up and still need more points later, you can transfer some 2026 points for your 2026 transfer, and then borrow them into 2025.

The rules for transfers can be amended but taking away? No because it’s part of the POS.

So, they could limit it further but given the new changes I don’t see that.
