I was wondering....If I bought last year and the point chart for BLT says for example a studio is 27pts a night and the 2010 point chart says it is 30 am I locked in at the 27 or is it now 30?

Thanks

It is now 30 -- they've been shifting points between weekend and weekdays the last couple of years. I believe it's the total points for a week that remains the same.

The 2010 point chart is for calender year 2010 the 2011 chat is for 2011.

The 27 point your looking at is which year. or 2009?????

It doesn't matter what the chart was when you purchased DVC. It only matters what the current chart is. If you travel in 2010, the 2010 point chart applies.

I wasn't sure if I was locked in for those points forever or if they changed.

Thanks

This is an oft discussed and misunderstood component of DVC. The total points at the resort cannot be changed, but the point charts may be reallocated as long as those totals are not violated. In order for the points for a specific date to be raised, others must be lowered.

There have now been 3 such reallocations - OKW was the same from 1991 - 1995 and then the points were reallocated in 1996 and stayed the same until this year when the point charts were modified at all DVC resorts (some nights were raised and some were lowered). There is also a change announced again for 2011. Basically, many weeknights have been raised and weekends lowered.

Total points applicable to a resort cannot change and that is locked in. However, they can change points applicable per night via point shifting -- if they raise them for some nights or seasons they need to lower them by equal numbers in other nights or seasons. In the last two years (for 2010 and for 2011), they did point shifting mainly raising weekdays and lowering weekends so that come 2011 the weekend nights are not much higher than weekdays whereas in 2009 they were substantially higher. They could make more changes in the future although I suspect they are now done doing the weekend to weekday shift.

The total points for a week can change. It's the total number of points for all rooms in the resort for an entire year that cannot change.

they also are chnging the seasons points, so some are now higher/lower by contrast than before.
