Me an my wife are teachers and looking at buying into DVC. I know the advice about buying into the resort you want to stay at and are looking into
BWV on the resale market. With that said we would like to stay at a lot of different places with our DVC points. So that brings me to my question. We have no problem planning 7 months in advance. We would only be able to travel in mid-march (spring break) and from June 1st to mid August. Which resorts would be the hardest to get a studio during those times and which are the easiest? Will we have trouble trying to getting those resorts most years if we aren't picky or will we have very little choice at that time of year? Thank you so much for your input. These boards are a great resource.

June to mid August seems to be a relatively easy time to get what you want at 7 months. For this year, at 11 months out, I booked a studio at BCV for a week over the 4th of July holiday. Then at 6 months out, our DS/DDiL asked us to take care of their dogs over that time period. I sighed and said we would. (Believe me, it wasn't an easy thing to do.) I actually did get a week in June in a studio in BCV at that 6 month time, and I was so happy and surprised :goodvibes

Now, Spring break could be different. My spring break is usually the 3rd week of March and if we're going to Disney, I do book that at 11 months, so I don't know how you'll do then. This year, I tried to get HHI at 7 months out for my DS's family and couldn't. They've been on a waitlist for the 3rd week in April for a 2 bedroom since that time. I do have them booked in VB for that week, and that I did book at 11 months.

being married to a teacher we have some of the same limitations you have, that being said we used to take a week off in the school year in Sept to go. Well a new school and principal have killed that option. This year we booked a relatively last minute trip and had limited options for our April spring break. Summer should be ok at 7 months. What I'm trying to say is as long as your break isn't Easter week proper you should be ok for spring and summer should be even better. I'm not a teacher hence the bad writing skills.

Thank you so much for all of your help. I feel a little more comfortable now. We will still be researching a lot. We want to make the best decision for our family. We love the idea of DVC a lot, but need to know it is a good for us.

I have had no trouble getting our resort of choice the first week of June the last two years.

When you say:
With that said we would like to stay at a lot of different places with our DVC points.
Do you mean non-DVC places or multiple DVC resorts?

If you are considering DVC to trade out and go someplace other than a DVC resort, you need to reconsider. DVC works best for people who use their points at DVC resorts.

We would only use our points to stay at DVC properties. We vacation at Disney at least every two years and every year for the past 5 years.

I'm also a teacher. On top of summer and spring break, if the calendar falls just so (as it does this year) it is possible to get a week in at WDW during the low-point January season. With Christmas Eve and New Years Eve falling on Saturdays, our school's last day before the break is Fri. Dec. 23rd, 2011 and we don't head back until Mon. Jan. 9th, 2012. We're actually going to head down for NYE ... which is something we would never consider doing without DVC points to cover our accommodations.
