hi i am new here i am looking into purchasing into dvc but had a question if i make a reservation and have to cancel it as a memeber arebthere penalties?

it depends but no real penalties . Your point can go into holding if really close to the ressie. Then if your at the end of your UY you may not be able to bank them either.

I'm have a June ressie right now I'm going to try to switch it at the 7 month mark and there will be no penalty for that.

If you cancel the reservation at least 31 days prior to arrival, the points are returned to your account. You may bank them if you are within your banking deadlines. If not, the points expire at the end of your use year unless you use them before then.

If you cancel less than 31 days prior to arrival, the points are returned to your account with restrictions (referred to as the holding account). You may not use those points to book anything sooner than 60 days prior to your desired arrival. Since availability is often limited 60 days prior to arrival, it can be difficult to use those points before they expire. You can't bank holding account points and they expire at the end of your use year if not used before then.

Resusing points from a cancelled reservation is a little more complicated if you used banked or borrowed points to make the original reservation. Generally, those points must be used before the end of your use year and cannot be "unbanked" or "unborrowed".
